My University professor, whom I very much like, is now obsessed with buying this new Table Saw (his hobby is carpentry, he now wants to build a set of kitchen cabinets). Anyway, he's bought this Table Saw, which uses a special sensor to detect flesh from that of wood, by electrical conductivity. Yes, it's really cool.....in theory. I say the 'acid test' is that the demonstrater uses his REAL finger - not just a hog dog. Or any other appendage he's willing to sacrifice  if he truly believes in his technology! Apparently, the inventor is a lawyer in addition to being a carpenter (don't know if he has 10 fingers though). Please watch the 'SawStop' hot dog instructional demos:

Don't close your eyes, or faint. Not even a nick in that hot dog.....now you try. Note: I was told the SawStop does not operate properly if the 'sawee' has a pacemaker - throws off the electrical current. EEEK!! !!

Cool!

But really - surgeons have been using them for years.... to go through skulls without cutting into the brain, for example..... at least that's what we did at med school.
BTW we all still have all 10 fingers....
