Reading out loud

A few minutes ago, I was getting caught up with my reading for American Lit. (The Great Gatsby). Well, about a page in I kind of just started to read it out loud to myself...I think I got into the story a little better, and it actually felt pretty good. I don't know...maybe talking makes me feel better. What do y'all think?

I'm glad it works for you! I believe I read somewhere about someone with an ASD saying that they could only appreciate the stories they made up if they said them out loud. I'm sure it could work in a similar manner with books.

Don't really read out loud much, if I do it's because I have to like when I'm called in class to read something which I can't stand.

Reading out loud is terrible.

My younger brother does it a lot. I don't mind if he does, just that I would rather give him space to do it and not have it around me.

I can't read out loud at all! I even mess up on simple words such as "the" and "it." I am able to read perfectly to myself but the second I have to do it in front of people, especially ones I don't know real well, I actually forget what words say because I am so nervous!

I hate reading out loud.

I miss words, sometimes even whole lines and sometimes add words that aren't even in the book i'm reading from. Have no idea why I do this.

When I read silently, though, I don't have these problems and can actually read a lot faster as don't have to co-ordinate my mouth with my brain.

I have trouble reading out loud. I read faster than I talk, so when I try to read out loud I have to consciously slow myself down. Also, a lot of times the words end up getting tangled up in my mouth.

I only read out loud for workplace safety meetings. It doesn't bother me because I don't ever trip over words. Actually, it amazes me that so many people who are often well versed in motor controls etc. suck at reading like they sometimes do. When I read something like Krakatoa: the day the earth exploded, or History of the Peloponnesian war, then I need to sometimes take notes to remember it real well. But with fiction like Terry Brooks or Kyle Mills I can just zip through a book like I have one part of my mind on the lines on the page and another forms images in mind. I'm not sure why I have two reading styles, but I do.

I like reading out loud so that whoever I'm reading to can get a proper idea of the expressions my characters use.

I get this weird thing when reading sometimes, though. After extended periods of time my jaw seems to do a few short involuntary 'bounces'. Anyone have any ideas?
