I have very little internet experience aside from being on WP.

Here's the question. Is it illegal to download songs off a band's myspace or did they put them there for public consumption?

That's what they put them there for. The bands maintain their own pages. I have one, although I don't have any downloads allowed.

its also legal to get em from p2p networks thats why they are made for and thats why its named peer-to-peer one of those programs is called limewire

Batista90, being called a peer-to-peer network doesnt make it legal, it just means that everyone can access the material. Limewire songs aren't making any money for the bands are they? so it would be breaking media piracy laws. Myspace downloads are legal though, yes, because they are being offered by the band.
