I've been up all night, hopelessly tossing and turning in bed. It's currently 5:08am and falling asleep seems impossible, though would I even benefit from 3 hours of sleep? I doubt it.

I felt like that last night, and the night before, and the night before, ad infinitum.

I decided to screw the sleep and just go to class on a day without it. Which is in 2 hours. Gah.

COFFEE!

Do a lot of aspies have insomnia? Do a lot of us have trouble getting to sleep, too?

I eventually go to sleep after an hour or two of lying in bed. My thoughts race the most during this time. There were a couple of nights where I gave up trying and didn't get sleepy until after sunrise.

I can't even manage that some mornings. I just sit up all night. 8O

I used to clean house but now I just sit around bored because I WANT to sleep, but my brain won't shut off. :(

Sim, did you get your coffee? Do you have a specific type that you like best? I'd recommend Turkish Coffee. You can find it at a Persian market or online somewhere. It's potent stuff!! !

I read a thing online (I forget exactly where), this guy who does this thing where he sleeps every three hours for an hour (or something like that)...anyway, before he started doing that, he had some articles on sleeping, one was about making a schedule, where you would always wake up at the same exact time every day. He said as long as you make sure that you always wake on the same time, your body will do the rest and you can just go to bed whenever you're tired.

I've been doing it for a while, and it took a long time to get into it, but now that I'm pretty strict about it, it's a LOT easier for me to fall asleep at reasonable times. Of course, sometimes I'll accidentally sleep through the TV waking me up (I try to hide the remote from myself before I go to sleep), and then I'll screw myself up a bit...but as long as I make sure that I'm up at the same time as usual the next day, I'm back in business (if not a bit groggy for the day).

I also try to make sure that I'm in bed relaxing (reading, TV, or playing Gameboy) for at least an hour before I decide to try to sleep. I try to keep away from anything that's too exciting (anything too actiony or horror and my mind's just racing). Note I said "try" I fail a lot and then I pay for it in the morning :x

Anyway, this may or may not work for you...but for me, it sure as heck beats staying up until my eyes won't stay open and then waking up later and later each day.

One thing I hate though is when I know I have to get up the next morning (whether earlier than usual or not) for a doctor's appointment or a job interview or something like that...even if I'm not nervous, I'm just up all night thinking about it :x

"Gotta go to sleep, gotta be up early." over and over

They say not to open your eyes, not to look at clocks, or anything like that...it's never made a difference for me.

I go through periods of this, as well. I'm glad that I'm not in classes.

I have periods where I can operate on just a couple hours of sleep a night. I need pills (Trazodone) to shut myself down at night. Otherwise I would be sitting at the computer all night long until my brain shuts off on its own.

The reason I have insomnia all the time is because I am a night person, and no amount of working at a day job has ever changed that. As soon as I have a few days off, I am back to going to sleep at 3 am. Then, when Monday comes, I have to get up at 7:30 am for work.

I have no trouble sleeping all day though, just can't do it at night. :D

I'm always up even when I'm tired. So what's there to talk about?

I'm an insomniac. I would unite for this discussion but I need to sleep.

I'm still up, I don't think this insomniac thread is as good as the threadkilling thread for insomniacs.
