It's happened to me a couple of times. There was one time that it bounced yet I had the money in the account, turned out the machine was on the fritz.

I've bounced a few checks in my time. I actually have two checking accounts, because I'm fancy that way :P

Usually I bounce a check by foolishly not paying attention to how much I have in the bank and how much my bills will be and overspending before a check goes through. A few times some company may try to pull out money at a time I wasn't expecting through automated withdraws unbeknownst to me. Like when I canceled my AT&T account, they overcharged me and tried to pull the money out two times. The bill was for $40, they tried pulling out $160. The jerks. Thankfully they refunded me $125, but that was a hassle to get and the refund came several months after the fact. So if you do ever get a checking account and have bills, I'd suggest you manually pay your bills rather than let them do it for you with an automated service.

I wish I had a story. Hmm... I know my parents have made many checks bounce in my life. I think my husband and I have only done it a few times, but it was all right in a row because the bank didn't process the DEPOSIT until AFTER the processed the withdrawals. So they made us bounce it which ticked us both off.

In England use of cheques is much in decline and shops etc will only accept them with a cheque guarantee card. Most people pay by debit card or credit card.

In France people still commonly pay for things by cheque, which is a pain if you are in a long line at a checkout waiting for someone to fill a cheque in. No guarantee card is needed here in France. It is a criminal offence to write a cheque that will bounce here, so people don't tend to write rubber cheques.

I had one go rubber in England many years ago, due to a company taking money out of my account a month earlier than they had agreed, re a car loan. Trouble is the banks hit you with charges for rubber cheques.

My dad gave a bad cheque to the Value Village thrift store once, and it bounced.

I haven't bounced a check, but I've made a check 'float' a time or two...

I balance my checkbook in my head, and I have made a few calculation mistakes in my time.

I've done it once by accident. I had enough money, but it was in the wrong account.

I just had that happen to me today... kept me from going down to see EvilKimEvil.. which was going to be fun.

Quite the surprise when the bank person tells me there are not enough funds to cover a large check that normally cashes right through.

I did write hot checks a couple of times many, many years ago when I was single before.
I thought I could plan it just right so by the time the check came back to my bank, payday would have passed and I would have gotten my money in just in time.

I don't remember if I ever got caught doing it, though.

Now-a-days it's got to be harder to scheme like that since things are so much faster as far as bank transactions.
