What the...? I was just reading wikipedia on domestic pigeons and it says they have been trained to distinguish cubist and impressionistic paintings. Who would think to do that? :lmao:

Pigeons in my opinion aren't mans best friend or mortal enemy. They are like a neighbour who you see every so often but never really get to know.

Although on the odd occassion I have had pigeons approach me for no reason...even when I didn't have any food or drink. One just stood infront of me and stared at me with it's head slightly tilted for about 20 seconds then flew away.

pigeons dont look anything like rats? they will not know what fleas are unless they can understand human language, but there are humans who spread things like hiv when they know they have it.
pigeons are just trying to survive whilst plopping that white stuff as they go.

am like watching the male pigeons that puff out their necks and chests and start running at all the others, they're like a pigeon version of guard dogs.

PIGEONS!

Gosh!

One of my friends tries to step on them and scare them.

Says she hates pigeons.

Every time that we would walk through the city where there are lots of pigeons, when she'd try to do something mean to them, I'd get angry with her and make a fuss about her behaviour.

She didn't change her opinion on pigeons, but she's actually ignoring them a lot now. When I am together with her at least.

I love how pigeons rarely get scared by me walking by. It is an interesting event to watch. They're not bothered by me walking by, but will grow frantic by another person just a few seconds later.

Somehow, I seem to have a slightly different style of walking that they do not perceive as a threat.

I am Rattus Norvegicus.
I’m sitting in some shit-hole rat’s nest and I’m a little angry.
I wanted to be a talk show host-not a rat.
You men think you have it bad with women?
I’ve got it a lot worse let me tell you.
What am I gonna say to some nice looking girl who I want to meet?
I can tread water for over 36 hours?
I can chew through lead pipes and cinderblocks?
I can run on telephone wires?!
And what if I do get the girl home?
Can’t fit her though the door-it’s too small.
Yeah I got a lot of girls.
How’d you like to have a tail that went through your body to drag around all the time?-
Not my idea of fun by a long shot!
And do you see the neighborhoods that I’m forced to live in?
Those people live like pigs!
Can’t catch the subway-they haven’t built it yet.
Can’t catch the up-town bus I can’t reach the step-up.
Hey taxi!
And everyone,
Wants to kill me,
Feed me drugs and poison,
Put electrodes in my head and make me run on treadmills
Dissect, bisect, and defect me.
Biome, blind, mane and tame me.
Are you folks crazy?!
You never invite me to your parties as if I would really wanna go anyhow.
Have you ever asked me to go to a movie?
How ‘bout bowling?
You ever seen a rat cry?
I got tears.
And I have a heart-and I got brains.
If you could just see past the fur,
I think that you would see
That I’m a lot like you.

Which pigeons are you talking about? Wood pigeons or feral pigeons?

Wood pigeons are larger, cleaner and do not roost in buldings. They look like this:

Feral pigeons are smaller, dirty (hence the expression 'rats with wings') and roost in buildings in large numbers. They are classed as vermin. Feral pigeons differ a lot in colour and markings, but they look more like this:

I love woodpigeons. I don't really like feral pigeons although I've never really been that bothered by them.

Don't get me wrong, they do have beautiful plumage, the reason I dislike pigeons, are because of the mess they left on my buildings balconies, in some apartments the pigeon poop was 10" deep, we had people getting sick and a massive flea invasion, which was caused by the pigeons, some of the birds were carrying tuberculosis which one person, who was feeding them had contracted. So our apartment association decided to do something about it, they put up netting, the only problem was it was to large, so the pigeons were hanging themselves in it, and that made the local news in Edmonton. There were a few upset people concerned about dying pigeons, so the building was covered in garden screening. They shoveled out the balconies including all the bird nests with baby pigeons too, and hauled it all off to be incinerated, so it wasn't a pretty job, the building also implemented a rule that anyone caught feeding pigeons on their balconies would be evicted, but people being being who they are, would cut holes in the screens to enjoy living in pigeon crap, and they were given the boot. After a year the building was a lot cleaner, and people were out on their balconies, enjoying their flower gardens, and not getting sick from breathing in pigeon crap. The thing about the rats with wings analogy is that pigeons are as dirty as sewer rats.

On a side note for all the cat lovers, alot of the cats in our building were eating diseased pigeons, they were very ill, and some had to be put down because of this problem, there was alot of unhappy pet owners who were going to take it out on the pigeon feeders.
