Where should I start. A few months ago "sewage" backed up into my apartment. The manager said it was fixed. This week it backed up again and made a "MESS" ( I will not talk about the smell). The pager was out of service, and I had to call the main office and leave a message.
The manager said they had "fixed" the problem and cleaned the carpet(extracting is not cleaning , and no I will not speak about the "smell"). At my fathers advice(yes father knows best, but don't tell him I said that) I rent a RUG Doctor and cleaned the rug( the water was "black" as night) I was able to "CLEAN" the carpet. I went through the closets and had to throw out many items including books. The Toilet then backed up again I tried to call maintance and they did not respond. I then call a plumber and he came out. Maintance did call back , and "cussed " me out and thought I should be "evicted" I told him I could not deal with him and he gave every "excuse in the "book". I made copies of everything and gave it to the main office with a "non-threatening note" about what had happened and that I was not happy.
I did leave a "non-threatening voice message" about if they apartment was going to pay me back. The apartment is cleaned It will be awhile befor the carpet is dry. My father also informed me that my grandmother who lives in central florida has broken her hip. She is 91 years old, and most of the family is there with her. She cannot be operated on due to her health and other concerns. I am sorry to dump this, yet I do not have any other options.

This won't help now, but for the future, renter's or homeowner's insurance is relatively cheap, and would cover the expenses of a thorough, biological clean-up (there are special crews for sewage clean-up).

You'll have the added advantage of having instant documentation (from the insurance adjusters) with which to bash the landlord.

Good luck! :D

Oh, great, they might be able to help you recover some of the damages for lost books and other belongings, plus clean-up expenses, depending on your policy - I guess you called them already, though! :)

Can two people have horrendous years in the same year?

Hip surgery is very common now-a-days so the actual hip repair shouldn't be a problem.

Her age, although a factor is not an automatic negative.

It's more about the body's systems and how they are functioning.

I have seen many 70-80 year old folks make it through surgery such as this and come out really well.

She's 91 so she really has lived quite a long time.
I do hope she makes it through alright and can go home as expected when she heals up enough.

It sounds as though this would be tough on you no matter the expected outcome was.

I'm glad you have other family around and I hope you all can offer support for her as well as each other.
What we do at our hospital is to make sure the family is included throughout the event.
Meaning... we realize that these issues place quite a bit of stress and worry on the family as well as the patient.

Definitely, take care of your family first and the apartment later.
Be careful not to wait too long to address the apartment issue though.

I do wish you, your grandmother, and family well.

I would like to let you know my grandmother made it ok in surgery. I spoke to my father who is with her and the rest of the family. She is alert and writing not, for she still has a tube in her wind pipe.
As for the apartment I have filed a complaint with the BBB, and I will hope for the best.
This is not my year.Thank you for your support and concern.

Thank you for the update.
I guess I wasn't sure before if you were close enough to go visit your grandmother... but now I see you apparently are not.

I know it was hard for me to be far off whenever family was ill or passed away.
Seems like I'm always too far away.

I hope you are getting enough support even at a distance from your family.

As for the apartment...
Are you still in the one that flooded twice?
If so, you might consider placing wood blocks under anything that sits on the floor which can be ruined if you flood again.
I had to do that in my old garage because it would flood whenever we had heavy rains over many days.

Good luck on that.
