A bit about each of them,

Lucky: She's coming up on 2 years old. She's always been a fiesty bird...a biter. I've tried to get her to stop biting but have given up. Nevertheless, she has the most character out of the three and I've had her the longest.

Bubbles: He was given to me last year, from someone who works at the vets that we take our animals to. He's 8 years old this year. The most tame out of the three, although still doesn't liked to be handled too much.

Squeak: He was given to me at the same time as Bubbles. He's either 4 or 5 years old this year...I can't quite remember. He's the only one of the birds who dances when I talk to him and the less dominant male.

Dont own any birds, but have some woodpeckers and others that I feed in the garden, does that count? or is this more of a indoor-thread

I luv birds but I just have to ask, does it bother any of you to have them in a cage?

I always wanted one but I've looked at the cages in pet stores and I have to say that looks like a form of bird torture..

Not that you guys are I just don't like to see something that flies to be caged up.

I was thinking of anything bird related.
I've been feeding blue tits in front of the flat, myself!

Then I`ll try to get some nice pics, theres a whole family of woodpeckers flying around, and theres some other black huuuge ones that visit from time to time. Lots of birds here, very nice.

My birds have room to fly as their cages are quite large.

Walking into a pet store can be quite hard, sometimes I have to leave because I just cant take it. Some places they just stack`em up in cages and there they sit, in an endless stream of noise and discomfort. I just hope they dont have a strong memory for some things, cause then its just torture.

Its easy to see if an animal is unhappy in a cage. They will start to sway back and forth as they are sitting. Over and over. Its a sort of an mental escape and the movements make you tired so you can sleep. Small movements showing deep discomfort. Just like me when I`m caged. Take a look at the animals in the zoo next time and notice the sitting-still-swaying. Cruel. Their in hell and have not much hope. I was locked up in a small completly empty concrete room for 37 hours on end ones, alone. That was a nightmare, I just kept swaying and trying to sleep, waiting, waiting and waiting.. and thats what they do.

It bothers me to keep my budgies in a cage and I'd rather let them have the run of the house. But when I open the cage door, they never come out. Once I caught one of them and released her into the bathroom, with the door and windows closed of course. It was a relatively small room and I thought it would give her room to stretch her wings without spooking her. But she was terrified. She flew around in panicked circles until she was exhausted, and I gently picked her up and put her back in her cage. She crouched there breathing hard for a few minutes and then seemed to forget about it, and I was relieved to see her looking perky again.

Since then I've never forced them to come out, though I do leave the cage door open for them sometimes. They never take the opportunity.

They`re broken down, they`re so used to it they dont know of anything else, the world outside the cage seems scary.

These are my spirit animals who like to visit me, my girlfriend got kind of freaked
out when they turned up at the window, as I was telling her that my animal was
the magpie.

Lovely - looks like a small penguin

Magpies are common on the plains, they are related to crows and ravens, so they are highly intelligent, and can vocalize, mine will chatter at me to get my attention, they love having peanuts or meat scraps in the winter, they sure do look like little penguins in the snow, they will have mock wars with the squirrels over who get to eat first, but they all get feed in the winter.

I love magpies!
