Is anyone else here mystified by people's focus on celebrities? I've never understood it. If I like a particular actor, I'll watch the movies he's in... if I like a particular band, I'll listen to their music... but I don't care about their personal lives. I can understand people following the work of good actors or musicians or whoever else, but what do their love lives have to do with anything?

I also find it stupid.

Some people are just into that kind of stuff, just like some people are into sports, etc.

ditto, I dont understand it either. Maybe it is some sort of cover for what life they want, or maybe just be involved some one they think is important.

Doesnt make any sense why people behave like that. Maybe they think they`re not good enought themselfes or something. Lets say I met the king of norway. So what, couldn`t care less. Same with any other celebrity. I have favorit actors and such, but wouldn`t behave like a idiot if I met them. Would probably keep walking, have no interest.

Got a feel someone didnt like this post, so removed it.

If you dont like something, why just not say what you dont
like instead of making unclear comments? That just makes it
worse, I think.

I have NO idea what the prolem was here, so it would be be nice
if people just told me, instead of sneaking around. I could have
learned something hear, with a little help, and then I wouldn`t do
it again.

But no. lets just do it the hard way then it seems.

It's kind of a social thing I think. Celebs are right at the top of the social ladder, so people follow them and try and be like them so they can climb higher on the social ladder, I think.

That's just a theory!!

No not personally unless they're very good at their work. Usually those get unnoticed in the spot light.

I get sick of hearing about these famous has-beens and people who use the spot light for modelling their expensive garb. I never did care for that kind of stuff.

I'm only interested in the good works of famous people who are actually good at what they do or have a natural talent.

Paris Hilton's a good example of *yawn*

If I`m the only one this makes sense to here, then I`m sorry, thats the way
it is and I`ll stand back to not annoy anyone. Just let me know! Please, pretty
please. I suck at guessing what the problem is.

am dont understand any of it [whether it's the human or celebrity obsession side],and sister [who is an aspie] gets all of those stupid human/celebrity magazines [one of them has got navy lettering as the logo, dont know what its called].
though she does get one non human/celebrity magazine every few months-'the cat',made by the cats protection league.
stories such as one cat heroicly saving all humans from an entire block of flats on fire without smoke alarms and nearly dying,is a lot better use of the paper than what toilet roll brand a celebrity uses,or announcing that one of them has just had a hair cut.

The only celebrities I really like are Dakota and Elle Fanning. They still have that youth and innocence of child actors. Hopefully they don't end up like Lindsay Lohan or Britney Spears...

Personally I actively don't want to know about the love lives and scandals of the celebrities I like, because it gets in the way of my appreciation of their music or their acting or whatever it is they do.

I don't mind important stuff like if someone is having a baby, or got married, things like that...but 99% of the stuff out there is like "This person gained/lost 20 pounds, this person is evading taxes, this person went to jail, this person's in rehab, this person is having a love triangle...this person is walking to the grocery store without makeup on."

Seriously

Maybe it's some sort of primordial urge to worship one or more deities or monarchs.

In the olden days, people had polytheistic belief systems and often believed that their leaders were chosen by the gods or were gods themselves or something.

Now we're supposed to accept that our government is made up of ordinary mortals like you and me, and there may be one single deity or none at all (according to the most popular belief systems of our time).

So what do we do about this? Worship celebrities of course.
