Hi,

I have two kittens, their mother was killed by a car. I think I'm doing ok with them. They're approx six weeks old.

Has anyone any advice to share on their care? They seem ok and happy but just it case.

:)

is good ideas, but am think they have to be a certain age before they have flea or worming stuff used on them, the vet told sister this when she rescued some kittens with their mum,is one to check out before trying if dont know.

Juniperberrygirl,
do have any photos of them?

am cant think of anything worthwhile apart from making sure they get enough attention through all senses so do not end up with any later problems.
a really good cat book worth getting is the cat detective -by vicky halls, sister solved some of her kitten problems with this,it is about all the behavioral problems that can happen with cats of any age and how to solve them.

I think Lucy covered all the really important bits.

Especially fleas...you wouldn't think fleas would be a huge problem, but kittens are so small, they can die from losing too much blood =(

As soon as I got them into the house I dosed them with the worming stuff, they have flee collers and also have been given the anti-flea thing at the back of the neck. Mum is feeding them out of a dropper but they're able to eat easily by themselves. They seemed to be in a bad state about four days ago but are bouncing about the place like any normal happy kittens now. They use the litter tray as well.

About stimulation, they are petted as much as they want. Mum put down paper bags for them to play with, they seem to have lots of fun with that. They also climb anything in the room, the scratching post, the cat igloo and any persons leg that is too slow to pick them up or just happens to be sitting down in the room with them. Mum also rigged up a string with a bell on it tied to the back of one of the chairs. I'm cat obsessive but I wonder did I miss anything? I have experience with cat care but I want to make sure they're as happy as I can make them.

Actually, I've also been wondering why they climb our legs. Me, my Mum and boyfriend think it's cute but wonder why they do it.

Good luck with your new kittens!

My Samantha came to me at age three weeks after her mommy was run over by a car. That was in 1979. I had her for 20 years. I hope that you can have your kitties with you for a long time.

Kittens are sweet, but I would advise to get a bunny instead. Rabbits freakin rock. I once had a rabbit that actually licked me.

He was usually very lazy and fat, but whenever I got home and had bags rustling he'd run out like lighting and jump up on me, cuz he thought I was going to open up a bag of rabbit food for him. His name was Chomper Niles Jesus-Christ-SuperStar. I luved him.

Rabbits kick super ass!

Thanks for the well wishes and advice from everybody.

Assburgerstew: I love cats, you love rabbits. I respect your love of rabbits. For me rabbits are nice to see, but, not for me as pets.
I already have the two kittens and I personally am not into rabbits. I hope I didn't cause you offense by this.

I also have a cat, he's 7 years old, but I brought him home when he was very little, he even walked with difficulty. Now he weighs about 9 kilos and loves to play with me like he's still a kitten :) may be you should ask about First Choice to feed them, there are many varieties for cats of all ages. I hope your pets will grow up strong and healthy :)

Are their eyes clothed or opened?

Depends on what stage they're in if you want advice on the proper care of them.

I wuv my kitties but I had to be careful with where I walked cause I almost squashed one of mine. She was just so little like a rodent that it was hard to walk plus she followed me everywhere.

Sad to hear that their mother died.

The eyes are open and have been as long as I've had them. They're approx six/seven weeks old. They're bouncing around and playing with anything that exists in the kitchen (each other, their toys, the scratching post, our laces, legs and head hair). Their Mother was wild, so they've been wormed, collared and had the stuff put on the back of their necks.

They are eating well and have quadrupled in size since they came into the house. :D :D :D

They climb everything that can be climbed, the kitchen has no holes for them to get stuck in (in case some people are worried).

I've had cats before and those that I've had were young but these guys still have blue eyes (well one of them has a blue eye and a gray eye).

Foodwise: Mum has always said that we (me and Mum) should cook for our cats as they don't get salt and stuff in their natural diet, we cook premium mince and rice and have mixed it with boiled egg for them.

They seem to me to be ok.

Though, do they learn how to jump with their Mum's or by themselves?
