This makes me angry - medicaid
I applied for medicaid being as i have numerous health bills, will definately incur numerous more in the next few months, and am completely unable to work at any job. I am not even physically capable of being a walmart greeter at the moment
I got my denial letter today. They are denying me because I had $500 in my bank account and you are not allowed to have anything over $0.00 in your bank account to get approved.
you want to know why I had $500 in my bank account - I had to borrow money to pay for me $350/month medicine, health insurance and groceries. Right now I owe friends a total of $1,500. Otherwise, I'd have been dead and on the streets a few months ago - dead is very likely given how severe my epilepsy is. The pharmacy won't allow me to get more than $100 in debt to them. I'm not eligible for charity medicine because I have health insurance, albeit a very sucky one. I can't cancel my health insurance without medicaid because as I said I can expect to occur numerous more medical expenses in the next few months - I will definately need at least one more $1300 EEG ($1,300 is the price after insurance, its something like $4000 without it)
I just checked my insurance company website - I currently owe providers $17, 534. 56 and that doesn't include my last doctors visit or the one tomorrow. Most of those providers have already told me I'm not elgible for charity. You would think they would take the fact that my medical bills put me $17,000 into debt in consideration when determining what my assets are wouldn't you. Especially considering they have documentation from several doctors stating that I will be unable to work for some time. (possibly forever, even with brain surgery, but hopefully only for a few months without any surgery).
So how am I supposed to pay these bills? And meanwhile still eat and have the medicine I need to survive? I'm eligible for $30/month in food stamps but in order to be able to actually walk for longer than a minute and not need to sleep for several hours afterwards I have to eat a special diet which means my grocery bill is closer to $100 for a month. I can't just say "Well I'll eat pasta, bread, lunch meat and potatos" because I'm not allowed to eat pasta, bread, lunch meat or potatos. Even if I buy the cheap olive oil, the amount I'm supposed to use costs around $20 for a month. And thats not to mention the non-prescribed supplements I'm supposed to take like 3 Omega 3 fish oils every day
Is the government telling me I should carry out my childhood dream of robbing a bank? But then I'm not physically capable of carrying out that task at the moment either. Maybe they want me to be one of those scammers whose sends you a letter about your 5th cousin twice removed who died in a Nigerian plane crash

they make no sense at all, they dont allow anything in the bank account before applying, but it's ok to have savings in afterwards [otherwise how would be able to buy anything]?
America treats its own country women/men like worthless unworthy crap.
would taking the savings out of account, and putting them back in after approved for medicaid not work or would that be bad/against law?
maybe could start own website or blog with a donate page so people can donate, like what the Rett Devil did to pay for her epileptic meds.

if you're not above making a few accidental mistakes on the paperwork, and you're in america, you should have a local Medical Assistance Program through the county that's independant of medicaid. they won't take you if you have insurance, but there's no national database of who has insurance that they can tap into to verify that you don't, so accidentally checking the wrong box on the form would be an easy mistake to make. if you have no income, all medical services received through your county will be very cheap or free.
i have seizures very rarely, but i had two a few weeks ago despite being on a low dose of lamictal. i went to the local county general hospital emergency room because i've never seen a neurologist but knew that i should. since my seizures are rare and i already had lamictal, and the ones i had could be blamed on too high a dose of another drug i was on, they sent me home with a promise that the neurology department would contact me eventually, and instructions to go ahead and get a gold card (the local MAP card). they said if i had any more seizures after dropping the dose of that one drug to come back to the emergency room and i'd get an ekg, probably at ct scan, and be hooked into the neurologists quicker. all for free.
and i have it on good authority that unpaid medical bills, even tho they do affect your credit rating, aren't looked on nearly as negatively as something like unpaid credit card or utility bills. ymmv.
since you have severe epilepsy and your doctor says you can't work, have you applied for disability? you should be able to get it but it takes a while. it comes with automatic medicaid.
