It is annoying that a potential employee can only apply and perform interviews, but they don't choose whether they are offered the work or not. Anyone with me?

I'm more worried about getting over my anxiety issues and lack of social skills before I worry about whether or not I can actually find a job. :?

History: Retail sales, fast food crew, warehouse order-picker, lawn mower, volunteer painter.

On my own, I've studied chemistry, physics, electronics.

Languages: English & Spanish, and can read Latin and Hebrew. Latin more than Hebrew though, since, it being an Indo-European language, there is more shared vocabulary.

Have had alot of stray jobs over the years, always
ending after a while, because i stressed myself out
and had to quit, way to much people around in the jobs
i had. Now i`m on my own, make my own work and
answer only to myself. That works out, but i really have
to work and make things happen, because i have absolutely
no papers at all, so i`m in the back of the line when it comes
to people hiring. And that means, if i dont make it on my
own, i`m pretty much done for, living on the street or something.
To old for school now, so dont feel i have much choice, have to
make things work on my own or become a hopeless bum. And that,
i`m not going to be, i`d rather be dead. Been there, its horrible.

It`s not easy, the job-thing. Or should i say the $ thing, we work to
get the $ mostly, not because its fun. Damn that filthy $..

No career yet. I don't know what I want to do yet either, nor what is possible or necessary.

Ideally, I'd like to work on my own - no bosses other than customers.
I'd like to design and build useful things, not just run around cleaning lobby or zoning a department.

@ ImTheGuyThatDidThat:

That sounds difficult. I think it's bad that it costs money to live, therefore automatically valuing a person's life by how much money they make.

It feels a little difficult sometimes, have a little pressure on me.
Really wish i had some papers, but it doesn`t help to wine about
it either.

Wish you luck and hope you find something to do that fits you.

The only tips i can give, i have taken from personal experience,
Bite yout teeth, trust your gut and dont listen to other people when they
tell you you cant do something. What do they know anyway? Set some
goals and work towards them, be prepared to put some efffort and sweat
and tears into it. Work now, rest later! And then, maybe, with a little luck
you reach those goals and can rest for a while. And then all those people
that where bringing you down, telling you you could not do it, they can just
suck on it :)

It might sound like i worked hard to be my own boss, but in a way it just happened.
Because, i dont work well with other people around me, i tried and tried, but it
just didnt work. So over time it just happened naturally in a way, i ended up
working on things i could do by myself. And with some goals and time passing by,
i fell into a position that fits me ok. But, i have worked my ass off for everything
i have, i have worked really hard, nothing was handed to me, just to underline
that.

Well, I worked and studied almost my whole career, so it's possible.

Do a list of things that you are good at, and a list of things that you like doing.
Also ask people to tell you what you are good at, maybe it'll surprise you. Sometimes one can't see the most obvious response.
I studied graphic design after doing that exercise, and so far I love it :D

Anyway, here's a list by Temple Grandin to get you started:

""it costs money to live, therefore automatically valuing a person's life by how much money they make.""

this sentence is so ugly, and so true. :x we try to make ends meet,
we try to make some money, and then we die..

Something is horribly wrong...it just doesn`t make sense
its sad and disturbing :(

That is a good tip. Have had some people tell me i was good at something,
and it came as a complete surprise to me, i had no idea myself, i just did it.
After being made aware of it, i started seeing some things myself, and got
a little happy, becasue it turned out i was good at doing something, and i
just thought i did ok, but not much more. Thats always nice, and it can be used
better when one is aware of it i think.

Yes :D
I remember when I asked my mom and my little brother (he's like 22 ) to each one do a list, and that's how I saw some stuff that was there all the time.

...Maybe it has to do with self-esteem...

Think there`s a possibility for some self-esteem, it felt a little
good to realize i was good at doing something, i always put
myself down, nothing i do is ever good enough in a way, so
felt good to discover that i sucked a little less then i thought
myself. At least there is a couple of things i`m good at, thats
something to lean on

One time i worked for a guy building cottages, i worked and worked
and worked, tried to do my best, but after 2-3 months i felt i wasn`t
doing a very good job and was wondering if i just should quit.

Then i talked to a guy my boss had talked to, and it turned out he was
very pleased with me and my work, the best worker he had!! a little
quiet and weird maybe, but he was very happy to have me working for
him. I just fell of my chair, first because of the shock of what just heard,
second because of the confusion; "but how is this possbile, how can i have
been working for so long, feeling bad about my work, and the boss is
happy.." I just didnt notice him in a way, i focused on the work, i didnt
think it was good enough, but he did :D and thats what was important.
Learned some things from that.
