I asked someone online to put me in contact with "June Smith." They responded that they would ask this person if she was the one I was looking for.

Then the next message I received said "Sorry she is not June Smith. She is 'June Thomas'"

I'm guessing they mean that Thomas is her maiden name so she is not the "June Smith" that I am looking for, but its quite funny that they would say "Oh yes I know June smith, I'll speak with her" and then follow that up with "Sorry, she's not "June Smith."

I am guessing her name was June Thomas and the dude just heard the name June with the common last name and thought she might be who you were looking for.

No this was all done in writing. And this person had "June Smith" listed as the name under her picture.

I had another funny name thing happen today. I was speaking with someone is something like my 3rd cousin, twice removed (at least thats what he is if I understand how to determine things like that :P )

His mothers name is Phyllis, so I was explaining to him that Phyliss is my great aunt. He picked up on my last name and asked if I was related to Bill. Being as we were talking about Phyllis, I thought he was asking for re-affirmation about how I was related to "Phil." I was thinking it odd that a woman would be called Phil but who am I to laugh at things like that. So I give this explanation about the reason my great-grandmothers last name is different is because she had a divorce and remarried. And he is like "that still doesn't tell me how you are related to Phil." "Because she's my grandmothers sister." "I know that but how are you related to Phil trees."

And then it dawned on me. He knew my great uncle, Bill and thats who he was asking about. Afterward, I realized that I should have known he wouldn't be calling his mother "Phil" even if that could be a shortened form of her name.
