Can the mods at WrongPlanet change your username? If so, could you perhaps change mine?

There are various reasons why I don't like this user-name:

. It's kind of childish-sounding (I came up with it when I was 15 or so).

. It makes me seem evil.

. People probably would never take someone with my user-name seriously.

. It makes me sound like a metal-head (I used to one, but I'm no longer one).

So yeah, could a mod possibly change my user-name? Thanks.

Oooh...Oooh! Me too! I would like to keep my name so people would still recognize me, just drop the threes.

I wouldn't mind changing mine either. It has no meaning, just a configuration of my initials and such.

I believe since I talked about it with Alex that your screen name can not be change at all because it will mess up the system very badly. Ask alex since he is the admin and all. Mods would more likely tell you the same thing as me.

If it can't be changed, most sites will allow you to create a second account provided you have them disable the first.

It wouldn't really mess the system up. I have no friends here really so..... Well, besides a few people I met off here. But I don't talk to any of them on here really.

It's not like people would think that I left or anything, because they wouldn't even realize anything.

I`ve asked them a couple of times, its hard
to get done. I would love to change it. Planning
on contacting someone and ask them to shut
down my profile so i can open a new one,
keeping everything the same eccept the
username. I`ll send a mail later today,
forgot yesterday

There were two guys who did that on Intensity last fall almost a year ago. They were elected mods on there and they went and changed the usernames in peoples profiles, their avatars, their sigs. They kept doing it to every active member and it was a fortunate I was only on the internet on Monday's and Tuesdays because I had just moved into my apartment. So they didn't mess with mine. It was no fun to mess with someone's profile if they weren't at the forum often. People were starting to leave because they didn't like it. One person didn't even come back till it was all over because he didn't want his profile to be messed with.

When it came to make a choice of my username I didn't need to think too long what it should be like because I chose the name I liked :D And now I'm glad I thought over this issue then because I like my username.

Generally I have problems when I want to register somewhere because I never can think of a good username. I have one such a name I always use when I need to be registered to get access to some restricted area but I don't use it anywhere else.

Perhaps all the posts are indexed directly to username. If so that is not good design. Ideally when a person registers on the site they should be allocated a unique numeric ID behind the scenes which is actually used for all the indexing purposes in the database. Then changing name would be a trivial matter because it would just be a property value like the other settings such as date of birth, location etc.

If username has been used as the unique id for the records it would be a big change to make and everyone would need to be offline for an update process to run and update all the records. Could be a big job. Only Alex knows, presumably he designed the database.
