Would you like a job as a pizza deliverer, delivering pizzas to people's houses?

Don't know...

I like pizza. But delivering...
At worst you might get mugged or murdered(as has happened in my town)

or at best some hot chicks may answer the door sans clothes.

Both have about equal chances of happening.

I did this for three years while in graduate school. During the school year, I easily pulled down over $500 per week working 2-3 nights as the closing driver.

I once had a gun pulled on me when I went to the front door of a two-apartment building and was supposed to go to the back door.

On more than one occassion I was greeted by hot chicks and hit on. But only once was the girl scantily clad in just a towel, having just gotten out of the shower.

I made great money, paid off my credit card debt, and had my ego boosted quite a lot by the ladies. I think I should go back and ask for my old job.

Nope, nor would I want any other job that involved driving as part of the workload. Cost of gas and risk are not worth it to me.

That was one of the best jobs I ever had.

Most of the job involved driving around town while listening to music. When there were no orders, I sat on the back porch, reading and eating fried snacks.

I made good money, and I got a free large pizza and pitcher of PBR every night after work. I'd hang out at the bar and drink the pitcher, then bring the pizza home to my house-mates.

Nah, it probably pays less money and do some places even pay for your gas?

I did this job off and on for years, it can be a lot of fun and can pay reasonably well. Lately though, drivers are really starting to get the shaft, as the gas prices rise and the major chains implement "delivery charges" that don't got to the driver, but eat into tips because customers think they do. To make it even worse, many companies, notably certain Papa John's franchises take advantage of the way the law is worded to pay delivery drivers below minimum wage, despite not covering the costs involved in the use of the driver's personal vehicle for the business. Finally, crime can be a real problem, food delivery is currently at number 8 on the most dangerous jobs list, and if you factored the risks due to crime it would be closer to #2 or #3 along with police and taxi work. Check out Tip The Pizza Guy, it's an informational website and discussion board for delivery drivers, if you're actually thinking about working in the industry you really ought to read through the site and some of the posts on the board specifically for new drivers. I should warn you though, they can be a little less than user friendly to n00bs posting on the board, especially if you fail to use the search button before posting your great insight into the world of delivery work.

I did it for a couple of weekends at Dominos, god I hate those pizzas. The weekends were the worse times to deliver, to many drunk or stoned customers who try to stiff you, I got ripped off 2 times, so management wasn't to impressed with that. The good thing about Dominos was that they paid the gas and paid daily.

The driving part sounds like fun. I like driving and I know my way around my home town.
But as a female pizza delivery person, I'd feel vulnerable.

Oh God no, that would involve driving around all day
talking to complete strangers over and over 8O
the horror, the unspeakable horror...
i would stress out on day 2 - sounds like a Lynch-nightmare

If i could deliver them without having to see any people,
no problem, i`ll do it. - With people, no way in hell am i
doing that! :) no way! You can torture me and pull out me
nails, i`m just not doing it :) (or...well i would do it if i
had to i guess).

Used to deliver newspapers some years back, not a newspaper
boy but packages with newspapers going out to the paperboys,
that was ok, i just dumped the papers at the dumping spot and
never saw anybody, just drove around alone all day :) the faster
i could do it, the faster i could take the day off, so i was incredibly
fast, zooming around throwing packages with papers out the window
at ligtning speeds so i could go home early :) My car at the time
really had a tuff job, it was all city driving, start-stop-start-stop
and so on

It wouldn't pay much, but I do enjoy riding in cars.
