Not sure how you should take control,
i brush my teeth once in the morning
and once at night and consider it a must.
Try to think of it this way, if you just
start and work with using a toothbrush,
you will save yourself from alot of pain
and dental visits - but if you have teeth
that hurt a trip to the dentist would be
smart and then try to keep up with the
brushing when they`re fixed. Try electric
and manual toothbrushes, maybe some
of them are more comfy to you then others -
and we often get used to things fast so
dont give up if its uncomfortable to start
with - good luck, you can do it

the main source because of this is because i know that i'm not making any progress
(in life) and feel that doing anything healthy for me is completely useless :?

""not making any progress

I know what you mean :( sometimes i see no point
in doing anything for myself. But i try to think that if
i dont take care of myself then things might get even
worse down the line in a way, i will be making more
problems for myself and i really dont need that-
but its hard to be motivated and keep it up day
after day, hope you find a way for it to work

I'm sorry you feel this way, UcA. I think taking a bit better care of yourself makes you feel a little bit better too. You still young and it's never too late to start.

Brushing my teeth is a sort of ritual I do and I feel better when my teeth and mouth are clean. I tend to exaggerate by doing it at least once a day (early) for over 15 minutes (with elec. toothbrush cleaning every corner) and in the evening with a hand brush for +/- 5 minutes.

Please realize or better I would advice you to brush your teeth because that's important for your health in general. I promise, doing it on a daily base, probably makes you feel better and I hope you'll start....

Good luck.

I think so too, once you get started - theres some motivation
to try - and as Erminea mentioned, there alot of different
health issues that can come from bad mouth hygiene, not
just bad teeth - if you brush, you might feel better with a
little luck. If you dont, i`m pretty sure you`ll feel worse
later on.

I never brush my teeth, except a month before dentist appointments. :P

My teeth used to hurt a lot, but ever since I got my wisdom teeth extracted, I feel much better.
My parents always said "Only brush the teeth you want to keep", so I tried to avoid brushing my wisdom teeth... and I didn't get to keep them!

I don't understand why dentists want us to brush our teeth. That's what I'm paying them to do!

I seem to have an aversion to brushing my teeth too. I do it maybe once a month. Funny thing is rest of family brushes daily and constanly complain about tooth pain. My teeth hurt every now and then, but not all that often. Plus I have a few cavities that have pretty much stayed the same for the last 5+ years.

Good to see I am not the only one who feels this way.

I'm so used to not doing it, that I only do it a few times a month.

Learning to do something starts with oneself. If you don't mind your last remaining tooth stabbing your gums, you could take care of it, or you could just have it pulled and then you'd at least be able to chew mush. Better decide quickly, lest you starve.

This is a mighty interesting thread as my son has major oral aversiveness. He acts like tooth brushing is a necessary evil. Right now, he is only 5 and is cavity-free. Somehow the tartar buildup is keeping his teeth safe from decay.
