Hi,

I've just started to plant my own vegetables in my small garden. When I get used to it I'd like to grow veg on a bigger scale.

Does anyone here have the same interest?

We have got a vege garden here and love the fresh veges! My Dad takes care of that and I dare NOT go in apart from getting veges
Last time I got in and did the weeding he was happy but also a bit annoyed. I couldn't understand it, I saved him alot of time and effort and yet he was slightly annoyed :?

Not yet, but I've been thinking about growing some carrots, cucumbers, and maybe some cherry tomatoes. We'll see...

When I lived in Massachussetts and had my own back yard I planted tomatoes, squash and lettuce. I love tomatoes especially when they get big. Big ripe red tomatoes have a sweetness all their own. The tomato plant is God's way of turning s**t into delight with the help of water and sunlight.

Over the course of the year my family and I plant sweet potatoes, green beans, tomatoes, watermelons, cantaloupe, several different kinds of lettuce and cabbage, white & red onions, bell & jalapeno peppers, and several kinds of squash. We also have fruit trees, mostly plum and pear, but we have a couple of apple and peach trees planted that should be big enough to put on fruit in a year or two.

Yeah I went nuts on growing veges a couple of years ago.

The trick is to keep veges well spaced out and to give them a good water for about three hours a couple of times a week. Also weed them after you water the ground because the weeds are easy to pull out.

I'm all prepared to plant jalapenos and roma tomatoes this year. All I have to do is get started, which is not that easy while in the biggest obsession ever obsessed. So yeah. My mom grew tomatoes last year in pots and it went well, but they were the kind with nasty crap in them such as seeds and gel, so I was determined then to grow romas. If I ever do get started, I'll use this thread to post pics of my progress.

I'm going to start small, with tomatoes and basil. Then I'll see.

My mother grows veggies in the backyard.

Planted, there are...lettuces, tomato plants, cucumber plants and celery. Unfortunately, the tomatoes have started to die off now because of the weather. [In NZ it's approaching winter now].

She also grows herbs such as Bazil, Parsley and Chives.

I love the thought of eating veggies that were grown from our garden. It's cheaper, and I know that they haven't been genetically modified. :)

If we ever get some land of our own I'd like to start a little greenhouse. Of course liking to and actually working on it are two separate beasts. I've thought of growing some things in a pot and even bought some seeds, but never got around to it...

I'd love to have a few trees. A peach tree, a plum tree, an apple tree, and maybe a banana tree. And some blueberry bushes. Eh.

Onions, tomatoes, cukes, yellow squash, snow peas, lettuce, green peppers...and who knows what else I'll end up planting this year. The herbs are mixed in with the flowers, chives, parsley, oregano, tyme, sage, basil, cilantro, rosemary, dill...etc.

I plant and things usually go nuts...end up giving alot away & freezing alot...I think the whole block was set for tomatoes and zucchini last year.

Mum and dad have an allotment just down the road.

Thanks for reminding me - I was supposed to go over there and dig another potato furrow.

Great idea! I'll look forward to that. I've tried to post images of my garden here, but apparently I can't do that without uploading them to the Internet first. Is that right?

I try to but we don't start to plant till the end of may, I might plant some tomatoes, and zucchini, we do have alot of rabbits and squirrels so lettuce and spinach would be difficult, I haven't had any luck with jalapeños or any other type of pepper, nights are just to cool for them, unless I made a little greenhouse

Yeah, just use something like www.Photobucket.com It's really easy.

I prefer Tinypic.com over Photobucket. Photobucket is really slow-loading and (I think) requires you to register, while Tinypic loads fast and doesn't require you to register.

I planted my romas and jalapenos today. Thanks to Smallholder for starting this thread, which inspired me to make sure I got the planting done. I'll post pics as soon as I get something photo-worthy.
