My husband and I just bought a car and the salesman said he would fix a tear in the seat, the broken LCD screen, and a paint problem on one of the bumpers. He left my husband a message this weekend that said the upholstery place was closed and he wouldn't be able to get that fixed until today or tomorrow.

As he was hanging up the phone, he fumbled with the phone, and you can hear him say "I just told a little fib".

Do you think we should call him on it or just forget about it if the problems get fixed? It was a $10k car.

First thing that comes to my mind is..
what other things is he screwing you
over with without you knowing..?
Hope it works out, good luck. I would
forget it if the car is as promised and
then never buy a car from that guy
ever again. And i might have the
car checked out properly at another
garage the first thing i did after getting
it. The problem i have is, if people cant
do as promised then tell me why and its
probably ok. But feed me BS and i
get mighty annoyed

Let it go.
As long as he comes through with what your expectations are, who realy cares what "little fib" he said?

""who realy cares what "little fib" he said""

I care a little, people who tells fibs
when selling cars have something
to hide for sure :) And its probably
going to be on the expense of the
buyer

Assuming the fib was at the new owners' expense. And to know that one would have to ask which may force the seller into more lies.
It's just as easy to assume the seller was making a statement for the benefit of someone unknown to the buyer and thererfore completely unrelated to the situation.
In fact, it's easy to assume almost anything based on one, little sentence. Perhaps the upholsterer had a family emergency of a very personal nature and couldn't finish the job? Perhaps the seller dropped the ball and failed to deliver the car intime for it's repairs? Would it really be necessary to call someone out on this?
Again, as long as you get what you want, why make an issue out of it when you don't know the full story anyway?

Well we did have a third part car critic come in and inspect the car. Cost us $170 but he was really thorough. He said other than a few minor things like old belts and short on transmission fluid it was fine other than the problems that we already knew were there (which we had not told him about, he just found them as well).

I'd take issue with it, if you have the time and/or energy.
That would make me so incredibly angry.

I would say the fib is actually that he just didnt get to the place on time. I wouldnt worry about it, he's a used car slaesman, its in their job description to lie.

Check the car, make sure there is nothing wrong with it, if it looks fine then the fib is probably just that they guy is lazy and didn't take it to the place.

The latter is most likely to be true, I wouldn't worry.
