...And did you think it was the coolest car ever?

Just felt like making a thread about my obsession! :)

I saw one in the 1990s. The 'stainless' steel body was marked really badly with fingerprints- they were really prominent, especially around the doors.

A bloke I used to work with was obsessed with them. No offense, but it got quite boring listening to him prattle on about them. They were a very short lived car, and there's only so much you can say about them.

Having said that, yes, they're interesting. I do admire the daring styling, and the frame made by Lotus is nice.

Each to their own, I love them!

The best part of the look of the car is the gullwing doors in my opinion, take a look!

~ahem~

They're a bit under powered.

But they do have a look all their own ...

Indeed, but for a 80s sports car they are very good on fuel and there are some DeLoreans with performance enhancements that work well!

I must admit I'm impressed with the prices they fetch (! !! !)

Not a cheap car to purchase if it's properly restored...

I've seen them now and then. Someone in Mesa, AZ (where I grew up owns) one.

Actually I just looked it up and there's lots of people who own them in AZ, there's a club!

Ask what they pay for a nicely restored one ! ! If Ebay is any indicator, they command a good price ! !!

I've seen them at car museums and car shows.

They're very cool, but I always end up being more impressed by custom-built cars with a similar design.

The ones I've seen on Ebay are often priced above 20,000 USD.

I love DeLoreans, mainly becasue I have realised, that, they just look so futuristic, even today, if a new version would be released, it would be one of the coolest cars ever...WOO!

I love the interior, how the seats are leaned back and cool...

Oooh Yeah!

Anyway, check this out... Great news!
http://redlightnaps.wordpress.com/2007/ ... on-market/

Good News:

Quote:
According to the LA Times, DeLorean Motors is planning on re-releasing the DeLorean car in the next year or so. Since production of the car ended 25 years ago, the company has been repairing and refurbishing the more than 6,500 DeLoreans still on the road.

And Bad News:
Quote:
However, if you’d like to own one of the new DeLoreans due out, you’d better put your order in early. The DeLorean Motor Company is only expecting to produce 20 or so at a time. Although no price was mentioned in the article, I bet you can expect a pretty price tag. The cars ran in the $20,000 bracket in the ’80s.

Anybody want one?

Edit:
Oh, and here's some other news...
Quote:
My overbearing opinion out of the way, the crux of the biscuit is that DeLorean Motor Company may soon start building new DeLoreans. They’ll be produced as kit cars, side-stepping the tighter restrictions placed on truly serial-produced cars. Once DeLorean Motor Company has cleared its plate of restoration work, likely by March or April 2008, it’ll start on the new cars. We’ll be keeping our eye on what materializes on the DMC front - being old enough to have seen BTF in the theatres, of course we’ve got a lust to have a DMC-12 sitting in our driveway, whether or not we have the optional Mr. Fusion installed
