I live near Olympia, WA and they are expecting blizzard like conditions which is extremely rare for this area. I am talking about high winds, a foot of snow, and ice storm as well. All that starting tomorrow afternoon going into Sunday. There will probably be deaths from accidents from this storm. We have a winter storm warning in my area. It used to be a watch, meaning less serious. A warning means it has a high chance of happening. So, whats the weather by you? Have you heard about the storm I am talking about? Are any of you in this area?

I live in the western part of the Lower Peninsula of Michigan. We've been hammered by snow since the start of December and it's not technically winter yet. To give you a picture, we just got off a Winter Storm Warning a few hours ago, only to have it replaced by a Watch for another storm coming in tomorrow night.

By the end of the month, we should have beat the all-time record for December snowfall in our area.

Wind and a foot of snow? In one place where I used to live, that was normal weather October through April. We'd only get warnings if the winds were going to be especially strong, or if there were sheets of ice involved (snow melting during the day, then freezing and getting covered by more snow as temps dropped).

I think you'll survive. Just stock up on essential items and stay inside, stay warm.

We had more snow than that in Flagstaff this week. On Tuesday, I cleared 14 inches of snow off the car then it snowed more and I cleared away another 16 inches of snow off the car today. So we had over 30 inches this week at least on this end of town. My friend downtown said they only had 5 inches on Tuesday which was weird. And the Weather Channel dude came and parked at Target and kept reporting 8 inches which was weird because we had 12 inches at that time. It was so bad the apartment manager gave up on using their snowplow and hired guys with bulldozers which was actually rather exciting to watch. I was up at 2am last night trying to watch them as they bulldozed our road since the city plows didn't do a good job then they came about 8 tonight to scoop some more in the parking lot. I shoveled two hours today and now I can barely even walk.

I think meteorologically speaking it's supposed to snow before the winter in areas where it does snow... Winter officially begins on the solstice apparently, which is the shortest day of the year, so there should be snow both before and after. Which is a bit different than my previous perception of winter being "december through february".

It's -26C outside. Don't know about the wind chill.

Not as bad as a few nights ago when it was -35C with wind chills around -45C.
