Is anyone else puzzled by how nuts are positioned in the grocery store? There is a section of dried fruits and nuts usually by the produce. Then, interspersed throughout the produce, are a few extra stand-alone displays of nuts. Then there is usually a specific nut section in an aisle, and then, more nuts are offered in the baking section. Unless you can memorize the price per ounce of every different brand of the same nut you saw three aisles back, you can't easily comparison shop.

lol Yeah they move like they can read each other's minds while I am running though the store yelling, "Has anyone seen Pablo?" and continue when I have evryone's attention, "He is an adorable little rat about the size of my fist."

I noticed that too. My grocery store moved *most* of the nuts in the soda area, next to the popcorn. I thought it would make more sense to be in the baking area, unless they're salted.

I think it stems from confusion over whether nuts are a "snack," an "ingredient," or a "food."

The question is, why don't they arrange each product in the most efficient way possible, allowing for easier location and immediate price comparison, rather than scattering the nuts everywhere?

It doesn't make any sense. When I shop, I like to make price comparisons. If I decide to buy some nuts, I have hunt all over the store and memorize how much each cost, plus the weight of the the different packages, plus whether they're shelled, salted, roasted, unsalted, or raw, in order to figure out which is the best buy. Sometimes I just give up and buy a cheap cut of meat instead.

I consider the raw, unsalted nuts an ingredient. Nobody eats nuts like that, they just out them in pecan pie or whatever else has nuts. The salted and roasted nuts would be a snack food, since that's how most people eat them.
My grocery store puts the dried fruit in different areas too. But the dried fruit in the candy section is cheaper than the one in the produce section.
