Because I live in the US (with a terrible record for measly vacation time), I only get around two weeks off in a year. Is this enough time to enjoy the touristy parts of New Zealand (and yes, I will have the eyes of a tourist).
With things the way they are, I will have to travel alone and prefer not to be part of a tour group. Will it be easy enough for me to get around and more importantly, will I be able to hire an automatic car as I cannot drive a stick-shift.
I suppose I can extend my break to three weeks, but this means I won't be able to go until 2010. In a way, I don't mind doing this because I figure that this will probably be my first and last time to be in New Zealand, so I better make it a long holiday. I was thinking of going around November.
I went to Australia in a November and apart from a few soggy days in Sydney, the weather was perfect.
Any tips and advice from New Zealanders here? One thing I know is that I should learn how to swim before I get there.
I wish there was a "travel" forum as I feel silly putting this in random discussion.
