bearded dragon question!! !!
okay i have an almost 5 year old beardie, the vet said it was a male, named him beau, well the pet store guy said it was a female, well i believed the vet more, well today walk in my so called male had eggs 12 of them. ok my beardie has never come in contact with another male or female for that matter, so yea no way of having any type of mating going on why is it laying eggs? and what do i do? how can i help him/her lol? we think it might be a hermaphadyte is that possible? i think she/he ate some already, is that okay? i'm so worried about my beardie. Any thoughts, any advice, any information would be greatly appreciated PLEASE!! !!

Your beardie is a female (I've kept both and currently have a 7 yr old male). Layinga small clutch of infertile eggs is not uncommon in females who have had no contact with males. It doesn't happen a lot. Make sure your girl gets a little extra calcium to replace that spent on her clutch. Remove the eggs as they'll get smelly soon. Don't worry beardie moms aren't attached to their eggs 6 hours or so after laying they move on.

Age,
is the vet that go to a specialist in exotic animals?
when am used to have rats, and they needed to get baytril, lumps checking out or whatever, every one of the vets said they 'dont specialise in rats' when they really meant theyve got absolutely no idea at all what they're working with,it sounded like they were saying the boys should go to a specialist vet.
so it may be that the vet mostly deals with the usual types like dogs,cats,rabbits... rather than exotics?
probably good have not got buchanans over there, useless vets.

Check out this bearded dragon forum. Try to look through the old posts before posting a new message - someone in the same situation has probably asked the same question and gotten some good answers.

Here's a care sheet that covers determination of sex along with pictures of the differences. You'll see that it could be a subtle difference, depending on the individual dragon, so it's not surprising that yours was assumed to be male until proven otherwise.

My kingsnake was supposed to be female based on the shape of his tail (a common way to guess the sex of a snake). Then one day he stuck out his "male parts" while musking - they do that sometimes.
Actually, lizards do that too in response to stress (like if you're holding the animal and there's a sudden noise or movement). It's possible that if your beardie had actually been male, this would have been confirmed one day by him getting startled and sticking his "boy parts" out.
omgosh thats such a relief thanks hehehe, guess its a female, dang drs lie to me... thing is shes still burrowing and puttin them in a corner though, guess shes still attached, i honestly didnt think she could pop that many out of her but wow surprises happen lol, thanks though your such a big help!
