It's neat!

I got it some of those pellets that are labeled as betta food but they fall too quickly for him and when he does get one, he just spits it out so I got concerned he might be getting pretty hungry so I switched to frozen bloodworms. Per the instructions, I chipped off a small chunk, put it in some siphoned fish water to let it thaw and put the water and the bloodwoms in the tank and he devoured the worms. He loved them.

sorry about the photo quality. I couldn't use a flash so it's a little blurry and the subject it moving and underwater and up close.

Those are cool. As you already know, you aren't supposed to put two in the same tank, or they will fight. So, I bet you can guess what is coming next.....Yes, me and a friend just had to find out how viscious(?) they really were. We bought 2 and put them in the same bowl, and they just chased each other around, nipping at each other's tail. Not very exciting, but, we just had to find out for ourselves.

he looks like the Beta that I had. But he died a few months ago. He lasted a few years though which is pretty good for a Beta.

yeah, two males + same tank = bad news.

in fact, I don't know pet stores have them next to each other in clear containers without some kind of opaque separators between them. I don't know about you but I wouldn't want to be pissed off all the time until someone came along to buy me.

I even did the pinch of kosher salt in the tank. Don't know why they tell you to do that. It might be a water softener or something.

I like that vibrant, Tanzanite-like color of your Betta, digger1.

I was hoping they would be a pirhana-like, cannibalistic terror, but not even close. So, don't anyone try it. And no, I'm not an animal abuser, just a dumb curious kid(at the time). :)

Have you seen the Planet Earth series from the BBC? Apparently even the Pirhana's aren't so vicious in real life. I have the series on DVD and learned that little fact

Oh yes, I've seen it too. I just figured that one fish could do a number on another. Am I twisted?

My late betta was called Mr Purple. He was a great fish, lotsa personality.

I just don't have what it takes for the 'fish tank' thing.

You only need to feed then 4 or 5 pellets per day, they will try to eat more but their tummies are to small, they love blood worms, just follow the instructions on the package, we have Bettas for years, and they really develop sweet personality's

I've had many a fish in my time (I used to rescue bettas from pet stores, and rehabilitate them, I rescued one that had had his tail cut off with a pair of scissors at a local department store =\ ) If you have any questions don't hesitate to ask!! ! I use the betta pellets from time to time but my Mango loves the bloodworms :) they're so good for the fishy! Sometimes it's good to let him go 1 day a week without food, if you decide to switch back to the pellets ever. Because the pellets are hard on their digestion.

one more question: what's his name? :)

He's beautiful!

Some fish just like "brackish" water...I guess they come from rivers that flow from oceans and what not.

I have guppies so I give them some salt, but sometimes it's annoying because you get dried salt all over everything when the water evaporates...or the popping bubbles from the bubbler gets it all over the lid of the tank.

He's beautiful! Bettas are also known as Siamese fighting fish. Siamese rule!
