Anyone else seriously think Jon and Kate's boys have Aspergers? For sure Joel and Aiden have it. Joel is like so out there and says stuff that doesn't pertain to what everyone else is talking about or doing. And Aiden is quiet, keeps to himself, brainy and he has the huge Aspie forehead.

So Aaden definately (I mean come on, he has the preoccupation with animals fyi just like my son had, and the who are you and why are you talking to me look when he is sent to time out.), oh and by the way none of the 3 of us in my family have "big aspie foreheads", but definately 2 of the 3 of us are aspies and the third is either aspie or pdd.

Joel, I can see it many times during the show, but its less obvious than aaden.

Collin, same as joel.

also, how about mady and possibly alexis?

I always get the girls names mixed up. Alexis I think is the little princess of the septuplets and I might instinct is she is very NT.

The older twins however seem to have severe behavioral problems perhaps from having to share the spotlight with septuplet siblings. The taller twin I'm sure has bi-polar. She has serious issues and many times I watch the show and say she needs to be spanked. But then again the mom has serious control issues so maybe the kids just copy her or perhaps its genetic. Then of course there is the dad and if you look at his behavior and his job then it sort spells out high functioning Aspie.

Something else comes to mind they were all preemies. And preemies tend to have developmental and other problems their entire lives. I used to work in a NICU so I know about preemie problems.

Alexis is the wild child of the tups. she is the loud one that kate frequently states lives in her own little world, and often asks her who she is. lol

As for the twins, Mady is the one that everyone i hear talk about or see write about them wants to spank her. she is SOOOOO not going to be fun as a teenager!! !

John, yep possible aspie.

Kate, can we say OCD to the extreme?

The second girl is described as being so in her own world that she can barely function in the real world. She also has more tantrums than the six younger kids. I think Kate is very OCD. Jon is the opposite-very scatterbrained and can't concentrate on anything.

I haven't seen that show in a long time because it's been about a year since I last had TV.

But I remember finding that show disturbing. Especially the episode in which they go to the American Girls place for the elder daughters' birthday. The mom seemed so completely neurotic, it scared me.

Maybe it just goes to show I probably don't want kids.

Yeah I have to say Kate scares me a lot because she is so over the top. In early episodes I swear she was abusing the kids jerking them up by one arm which can dislocate little shoulders. Actually I saw someone dislocate a toddler's shoulder like that before. Also she like yells at the kids to all be happy and smile for pictures. I'm also appalled at how little food those kids are dished out on their paper plates with the exception of the 4th of July shrimp cookout thing. I mean seriously those kids are bony and they are given very little.

But to Kate's credit I would probably go insane raising 8 kids especially 6 toddlers. Actually the boys all seem like fun its the girls that are handfuls especially the twins. God forbid when the twins are teens. I still can't understand why she underfeeds them unless she is anorexic because they have to be getting a lot of money from doing the show otherwise why would they let camera crews invade their home? It also seems sad that you don't see the kids play with toys much, yet when they did the yard sale episode she piled up hundreds of toys fans had mailed to the kids that ended up in the yard sale. I just thank God I wasn't born into that family because the kids do seem emotionally neglected.

Did you folks see in the news today a woman just had Octuplets? I guess TLC will have to create a new tv show for her.

Has anyone seen 17 Kids and Counting? You'd think with that many kids there would be at least one that was either one the autism spectrum or had some other kind of mental disorder. But they are all extremely nuerotypical, almost creepy in a way.

I have only seen a few episodes of Jon and Kate plus 8. I don't know about the kids, but kate must have OCD or somehing. And she can get really scary!

Did anyone see their new house. All I can say is wow. The duggers weddign was beautiful especially when he he was singing to her. I agree about the kids beign a little skinny. However when they show them at checkups the doctor says they are normal. How? Kate claims the kids would ather make up games. Which might be true. They are always playing animals. If Mady is this bad now wait for the teen years. *shudders*

The Duggers are plain creepy. All I can say is birth control people. Mormonism breeds neurotics. The kids are emotionally neglected and end up either being abusers or abusees as adults. I've known Mormons that tell me how horrible the marriages and households are. Our town is currently hiding out a number of women who were raped by pervert old men in the name of God. It's sick!

I'm terrified Kate is going to come on here and bawl us all out! What IF Jon and the kids are Aspies then she might be on here! Hi Kate! You need to chill; you're scaring the kids and the audience!

Yeah, the family dynamics do seem pretty messed up in certain ways - I agree with you, Ticker. Glad you brought up the under-feeding and lack of toys. I had noticed those things too but forgotten.

All I can really say is that some of their parenting practices don't strike me as acceptable by normal standards, but how can having 8 young children be considered normal? So maybe it's unfair to hold them to normal standards, especially considering that only select moments from their lives are picked for the show. We don't know how TLC chooses to portray them or how they are in reality.

But, whomever is to blame, some aspects of the show set a bad example for parenting. They also show some good examples - the activities they do, the way the kids are held to certain standards of responsibility, etc.

And of course the show serves as a sort of reality check for people considering starting large families.

I actually started watching those TLC and Discovery Health shows to help me make a more informed decision about whether or not I wanted kids. Cumulatively, shows like that made me doubt that I wanted children, or at least a large number of children . . .

Release the Bats you bring up some good points. The show does serve as a good public service message on why not to have large families. I was reading something recently about how women who are impregnated artificially often end up with 3 or more embryos so the doctors advise them to eliminate the embryos. Oh there is a nice PC term for elimination which I forget what they call it, but basically its culling down to no more than twins because of health risks. At first I was appalled because its kinda sick to try so hard to get pregnant then kill embryos that God decides to bless you with.

But at the same time multiple births are always preemies, even many twins are preemies. I've worked with preemies and know that being born too early causes the majority of them developmental problems, vision problems from the oxygen machines, hearing & heart problems and way too many end up things like cerebral palsy. So maybe it is better to not have multiples because you jeopardize their health that can affect them their whole life. Also its pretty obvious parents no matter how well intentioned and loving can only spread themselves so thin. I see in big families kids don't get the attention and emotional support they need and if they do have developmental problems they don't get the extra support needed. Then there is the whole issue of can your afford to feed them all healthy food and provide healthcare?

Maybe Kate's kids are fed more than we see like maybe she feeds them small meals and extra snacks. I mean we don't see the whole day and if maybe they get 5 small meals and they maybe just exercise it all off playing so hard. Or can they not afford to feed the kids? We just don't know. The one thing that disturbs me most is her yelling, ignoring and jerking up the kids by the arm. Good grief you're suppose to pick up little ones by placing a hand under each arm or else putting your forearm under their rear and boosting them up into your arms. You don't jerk them up by their arm because it hyperextends the arm and can damage cartilage which is really soft in kids and can dislocate the shoulder.

Still I watch the show for some reason. Though would never want that many kids. But I would love sons like Aiden, Colin and Joel cause they are fun and very brainy. I really adore little Aiden. I wonder if they will keep the show going through their school years? I hope the kids take up Taekwondo since they are of Korean descent and learn to kick Kate's butt! They start a new season on Feb 2.
