how much damage does lack of sleep do?

Please don't say "alot" because then i've had it!! ! Because i never sleep well, nowdays more then it used to be i used to sleep for like 5-6 hours. I sleep more now but still please don't tell me it does alot of damage...

Also will i ever recover the damage it has done?

there is no way you will have lasting health problems if you sleep 5-6 hours a night. different people are wired differently in terms of how much sleep they need to 'function' at their best; I am, I think, at the high end of the spectrum (8 hours plus is 'natural' for me), but I hardly ever get more than 6 hours in a day, and it's always at random hours, sometimes in 2 hour blocks throughout the day, etc... the end result is I drink way too much coffee and aside from that I am perfectly fine.

i think its bad for your health in similar ways to obesity, smoking, drinking etc - night shift work has been linked to problems (heart disease?) IIRC. but your body can probably recover if its given a chance.

Your 16? your body can probably manage loads of abuse then - i used to skip loads of nights and function well, it wasnt till approaching 30 that i started suffering.

i've gone without sleep for extended periods in my college days, and I felt yucky afterwards, if you're having difficulty sleeping, seek medical advice

It sounds like you get enough sleep, and the body does recover from sleeplessness quite fast.

5-6 hours used to be a lot for me...I would usually sleep 2-3 hours a night before I went back on my risperadol (sp?)
My body is milking up sleep now, so I think I should be fine. 5-6 hours won't hurt you at all, so you don't need to worry.

Unless you've damaged your psyche somewhat, it'll always come back in a couple of days. Getting good rest is mostly a matter of knowing when you're tired, and fitting your sleeping pattern with your working one.
