Could have been simply curiosity, I guess......but it was the sheer urgency of his response that floored me. He's not normally in a hurry to do anything.
Anyway, whatever the military situation, both he and his friend appear to be unharmed. His chum paid us a brief unexpected visit last night. It's strange, I've never seen them closer than about 3 feet from each other, but they seem very connected. The friend has only been in my house twice, and clearly feels very nervous about it, but seems prepared to take the risk very occasionally if Ginger's in the house.
As for Ginger, he's more like a dog than a cat in some ways - he just seems to be around for the company, it's certainly not food. Definitely the most social cat I've known. Purrs like a motorboat all the time he's in the house.
