I rarely use facebook. I used it the other day and decided to enter my religious and political views on my information. I noticed something.

They have a list of religious views to choose from. On the list is Amish. Think about that for a second. How many Amish people do you think use facebook? :chin:

That one where they live seperate from the rest of the world without much technology, kinda stuck in 19th century-ish I think. Don't know much about them

wikipedia is your friend.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Amish

The basic point I was trying to make is that using facebook is against their religion.

^^ Haha, funny observation.

I'm sure though, that if it wasn't included in the list, somebody somewhere for some reason would be offended.

oh ye of lesser cranial capacity... (j/k!)

The Amish will let those 16 and over out into the world of the "English" or modern society to explore what it's like outside their village. Some come back and are stronger for their experience. Others don't because they find that the outside world has much more to offer or whatever.

During their time on the outside, they undoubtedly use a computer and are introduced to facebook, myspace, twitter, google, wikipedia, A&E specials on the Amish...

Maybe it is for the Mennonites, a sect of the Amish.

This is known as the Rumspringa. I read a book about it last year but have forgotten the title.

Menonites aren't a sect of the Amish- these two groups as well as Hutterites are all members of the Anabaptist sect of Christianity. Unless you are talking about Old Colony Mennonites (who live similarly to the Amish) most Mennonites are quite modern in their views, which extends to technology.

However, do they not decide to return to Amish ways they become effectively excommunicated, and therefore no longer Amish. It'd be hard to actually get into facebook unless you planned not to return.
