Followthereaper90,
the restraint at night was probably written into own guidelines, they will have [at least they should have, but this is the UK and adult residential services am judging from so...] had it risk assessed and officially given goahead by a specialist, they should have had it oked by parents as well because are in a youths group home.
What do parents think about being restrained at night?
They should be able to have it reversed,if can get them to listen, surely it goes against human rights because they are restraining when are not challenging-have a look up the human rights laws to get backup, and also the disability law if there is one,get an advocate involved as well-the local council should have an advocate service for people in residential care.

If anything, restraining someone who is not challenging, who is in full control of themself,is only going to set off the fight or flight effect and cause challenging behavior, sounds like bad risk assessment.

It sounds like this may be all over funding, they've reduced the night staff thinking the others can cope, and now they realise they shouldn't have, they're upgrading the staff list again, they do that in the residential and group homes here if service users are considered rarely challenging at night, and the unfortunate night staff requiring sods like am get given horrible agency waking night staff from the cheapest agencies instead of the better council staff [not enough of them].

Try and get an advocate involved Followthereaper90,and tell them what tell WP,am think the best thing could do would be to get an advocate service involved, they could help get things done, and speak on behalf if need it.

And keep strong, try to remember good things as strong as possible, remember it's a childrens/youth home so wont be there forever.
do they do room checks/go through stuff etc? am tend to stash coke/pepsi cans in room as not allowed the actual cans-they never find them,am know other service users in different houses who have little mini fridges in their rooms that hold coke/pepsi etc cans, would the staff not allow one of these in bedroom?

yes its written to guide lines there has also mentioned restraints need to be most less resistive,my parents made it so that they cant restraint my hands or legs if i dont meltdown i guess they dont like it either but think its necessary because of my meltdown traits, dont know about challenging since i can meltdown if stressed out too much, also they have got one warning for care mistake by counsil :P

They do room checks but its only when im away and im being telled about it but its for alcohol, blades etc ,sorry to hear u have also funding problems:/ hope they will get more money for u soon^^

mini fridges arent allowed for un spesified reason so either i hide coke's somewhere where i can reach or need to ask for it

i wont be here forever i can hopefully finish school in year even its stressing
