Any Americans who want to watch Spokane Girl's favorite movie, it's on Hulu right now
I'll definitely be giving it a view, haven't seen it in a while.

Watched it last night...
When Joon puts the flaming photo in the sink, I totally thought it was going to catch on the towel, and then up the curtains, and set the house on fire @_@ But I was pretty sure I would've remembered if that had happened.
I wonder if she actually spells it "Joon", or if the movie is just called that because that's how Sam spells it in his letter. Though I suppose it wouldn't also be spelt that way in the credits, if that were the case.

Sam spelled it that way so they made the movie title that way. I am sure the rest of the characters spells her name as "June." I just spell it as "Joon" in my stories because it's spelled that way in the credits and in the movie title.
PS there has been rumors the house did catch on fire and they had it in a scene and it was cut. Some also said they burned the house down for the scene but I never believed it because someone was living in that house and what movie company would burn it down if it belonged to someone you know?
But the house did catch on fire in the movie script and there were fire sirens and Benny saw it when he got back and then he rushes looking for Joon and then he sees the bus and people.
The house still stands. Here's what it looks like: (It's changed a little since then, I just haven't put the photo up yet).
Hey did you notice the part where Joon is holding a kleenex next to the fan and she has a lit candle on the floor, she has this look on her face as she drops it? I would swear she knew what she was doing and she just did it to drive her brother crazy and it wasn't the illness. She was looking at him as she dropped it and she gets up and when Benny stamps it out, Joon looks at him and sticks her nose up in the air and heads in her studio. It just looked all intentional to me. In the later scenes she drops the burning picture in the sink than on the floor. So she does have awareness of her actions and understands it or else she wouldn't have put the picture in the sink and just maybe let it burn on the stove or on the floor. But she left it burning where there was a towel hanging in the sink so she probably doesn't always realize where her actions can lead to and maybe didn't realize the towel can catch on fire and burn the whole place down. But then again even regular people can make the same kind of move. People have left their homes with something burning and they come home and see their house is on fire.
You can do anything you want (not literally) when you have a mental illness because people will just assume you don't know any better and blame it on the illness. I don't know if she understood her actions when she was directing traffic but pulling out the medical alert card made me wonder if she was just doing it to drive Benny crazy because if she didn't understand, I am sure she would pull out her other ID unless her medical card was the only ID she had and she knows to show it if anyone asks for ID.
But it's a movie so I don't really get all worked up over it and if I had someone who was over protective of me, I would be doing things to drive them crazy too and just let them blame it on my AS. Of course I know it won't make the situation any better because then it just makes the person think that is why he or she needs to be protective over me and all and treat me like a child. I realized that after high school because I was doing things to drive my aid crazy and get her reaction because she was over protective of me so I can understand the frustrations Joon may have had.
I know there are people out there like Joon and people out there who are over protective over their loved ones because of their mental condition. There are even parents who are over protective of their adult aspies so they don't let them do anything like go out on their own.
Yeah, I read that on IMDB the other night, I wonder if they actually did film it but just cut the scene out (I figure it would make sense if they realized that filming a house burning down would go over their budget)...it does kind of look like the flame is still flickering for a bit after Joon walks away.
If anything, they would probably mention it in the DVD commentary, but it doesn't look like there is any.
I'm pretty sure it was intentional...I know when I was younger, I'd do some pretty irrational things when I was angry with my parents. Heck, even when I wasn't angry, I'd still manage to find all sorts of destructive things to keep me busy
That, and I think the filmmakers thought that point in the movie was a good time to go "Hey, PS. she has a mental disability." I had to pause it to actually read the card though.
Speaking of which, I liked how the cop had his thumb over part of the phone number, and it wasn't a 555 number...later, when Benny asks his coworker for someone's number, he quickly says "555" while he's offscreen, I think they overdubbed it (sorry, I notice weird things like that).
I know they've had movies before where in theatres they'd have real phone numbers, and they'd change them to "555" for home release.
I didn't think he was too protective, but he definitely did overreact at Sam and Joon's "itemship". But I guess it wouldn't be much of a movie if there wasn't some sort of conflict going on.

I like Johnny Depp and the eccentric characters he plays. One of his greatest movie roles as well as Mary Stuart Masterson and Aidan Quinn.
So yes I love the movie.....and never met anyone so dedicated to a movie as Spokane...
Also has a great soundtrack btw!
