What do people mean when they say that? I know what the spanish inquisition is but I don't know the meaning of the phrase "I didn't expect the spanish inquisition."

It's one of those idioms I haven't quite got my head round.

I guess they mean they didn't want to be kill by inquisitors?
Neurotypicals use loads of silly sayings and I don't understand the vast majority lol

It just means to be interrogated.

The idiom was also popularised by Monty Pythons Flying Circus as one of their weekly comedy spots. Someone makes a remark about something. Someone else asks them about it; then the first person says "I didn't expect the Spanish inquisition"... at which point the Monty team leap in saying "Nobody expects the Spanish inquisition". It was funny, trust me. :P

TallyMan is right. They mean that they feel like you're asking too many questions or asking them in an aggressive manner.

You know, I'm not sure I've ever actually heard anyone say this. But this thread is hilarious nonetheless.

Heck, I even did a pic of the 2nd one, where they torture a woman in 'the comfy chair'...;)
Time to rummage around...;)

Just modeling the chair. No one looks at pictures without a pretty girl...;)

That is one of the Python team's classic sketches. I love it when they start "torturing" somebody with comfy chairs and soft cushions...
