When lionesses get old and have a drop in their estrogen levels, they grow a "pseudo-mane"! !
My last visit to a local zoo made me "think" I was looking at a young lion when in fact, I was observing an old lioness. A zoo attendant gave me this juicy bit of info. She didn't go into too much detail and suggested I contact their zoologist for detail. Has anyone come across a "Liger" or "Tigon"? (A cross between a tiger and a lion). I heard one was actually born somewhere? I was wondering if it stayed healthy and thrived. It's interesting how rotten a person can feel working at a mundane job and actually wanting to die on the way home only to go to a zoo or a science center and pray to God to make them live forever so they can see where all this wonder ends up!! I "strongly" suggest frequent outtings to places like these if you feel crappy. These places work for me!! I'm willing to go into debt just to see the next, biggest, bestest zoo and/or science center being built. Seriously. Who needs meds when you have nature, science and innovation? I'm seriously thinking of quitting my job and working for places like these just to stay sane. For you youngins out there...find summer work or part-time work at these places if you do or don't want to consider a career in science. So much to wonder at...you won't be sorry and you just might find your calling.
