perception, upbringing and culture.

i _NEVER_ found vegetables to be "disgusting" cus they were NEVER presented to me as such. i eat all vegetables with the same joy as i eat non-vegetable food. especially the past 10 years when im broke, and continously hungry. right now, i'd give two of my fingers for a carrot and some lettuce, cus i have zip food left in my house.

its just perception. veggies are crispy and fresh, they have vivid colors, and are often sweet and fresh in taste. whats disgusting about it? soggy fatty blubber is ten times more disgusting than an piece of broccoli, seriously.

i eat blubber too tho.

I know what you mean. I've having to eat alot of stuff with vegetables and whole grain I think it tastes horrible. Why? No idea. God has a sense of humor? Just out of curiousity which ones are we talking about? I freakin' hate eggplant and green peppers. Squash literally makes me hurl.

chop an eggplant in half, and scoop out some of the "meat". fill the cavity w meat and veggies, top it w cheese, put it in the oven. fantastic eating. middle eastern tradition i think, not sure, but probably one of the deliciousest dishes i know of.

I don't think vegetables are disgusting. Everyone has a personal preference. From the time I was a baby I have enjoyed fresh food (not just vegetables) more than anything else. Up until the age of 10 I refused to eat pies, then I started eating vegan so veges are now probably what I eat the most of.

I'm not sure that last part about blubber is particularly meaningful. Fat is calorie dense, and people probably would evolve a taste for it as food would not be so ridiculously abundant as it is now.

It's actually because of a genetic difference. In some people the bitter taste in vegetables is more pronounced. It's called the supertaster gene.

Yes, a similar trait has been recognized with a number of herbs, including Cilantro (Coriandrum sativum).

from http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cilantro#Leaves...
Some people perceive an unpleasant "soapy" taste or a rank smell and avoid eating the leaves. Popular belief that this is genetically determined may arise from the known genetic variation in taste perception of the synthetic chemical phenylthiocarbamide.

from http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Phenylthiocarbamide...
Phenylthiocarbamide, also known as PTC, is an organic compound that either tastes very bitter, or is virtually tasteless, depending on the genetic makeup of the taster. The ability to taste PTC is a dominant genetic trait. The test to determine PTC sensitivity is one of the most common genetic tests on humans.

I personally LOVE cilantro, and vegetables

I think mushy cooked vegetables are pretty gross, and I certainly wouldn't eat canned veggies if I had the choice.

Love raw veggies though...carrots especially. Some veggies are okay cooked. I'm a pretty big fan of fried potatoes ;)
