I have a male neighbor who lives on the other side of the duplex I live in.
First, I want to point out that he has a girlfriend. So, I find the following
behavior puzzling.

The houses are single level. One night, I was in bed, reading, and
my cat kept staring at the window, so I listened hard, and after
about 5 minutes, I could hear him softly walking away from the
window, and then I heard his back door gently open and shut. It
creeped me out, because I didn't know what he was doing.

Several times, when I had to make multiple trips past his back door
while doing my laundry, I see him peeking at me through his blinds.
Sometimes, he'll even come out to stand on the porch, and pretend
to admire the view of the parking lot.
Just this evening, I was on my way to the laundry room, and I stopped
to chat with my female neighbor, and he came out on the porch. First he looked at us, and then sat down on his porch swing. When our little gab fest broke up, he went back inside.
I also suspect him of eavesdropping when I talk on the telephone, because these walls are rather thin.

Does anyone want to venture a guess as to why this person behaves this way? It's got me puzzled.

Creepy stalker syndrome.

Perhaps you're a good looking or something. Please excuse me I'm a male aspie and I do not wish to disturb with my speech syntex or offend/ make uncomfortable.

I'm not offended. I like analyzing things, and I wondered if I could be in danger or something, since I am pretty clueless about other people's behavior. I am an older lady, and my neighbor is much younger, and this is why I don't jump to a conclusion that this is based upon my looks.

Perhaps he finds you mysterious and is trying to get to know you better, by means of analyzing how you look and listening to what you talk about. It's understandable, but creepy.

Perhaps you should look at him, wave at him, talk to him. The mystery will be taken away, and he may lose interest.

Actually, I have spoken; said hello and waved. But this has gone on for over a year. You'd think he'd get bored. It wouldn't bother me so much, but for the fact that I often receive phone counseling, and I worry that he is hearing some pretty private stuff. It makes me extremely anxious when I have to worry if he is listening every time I talk on the phone!

I welcome any and all feedback.

From my life experiences, once anyone is over twenty-five years of age it doesn’t matter who is older or who is younger, an attractive person is just that. I remember I liked some older ladies when I was young, still do, :D .
It seems to me that he’s attracted to you. Unless his problem is that he’s just a shy, nerdy type like most of us here are I would stay away from him; he doesn’t look too stable.

I thought of asking him why he was doing this, but that might go badly. I am not at all interested in him, for many reasons.

I have noticed an interesting trend. I had a stalker about 2 years ago, from the building I used to live in. It started when I went to his door to ask him to turn his music down. After that, he started stalking me. I have asked this guy to regulate his music, too. 8O
