Have you ever eaten expired food?

It doesn't taste very good. Today at my parents house I open a can of Campbells pasta meatball soup and I pour it in to a small plastic storage container and I noticed the soup is sort of stiff. I look at the expiration date and see it was nearly expired three years ago. July 2006 it said. I didn't want to eat any expired food that was from three years ago so I dump it in the trash and the can too and have Easy Mac which expires this month  I can eat food that is a few months pass the sell by date.

oddly enough, the expiration date on canned goods is the expiration date of the can, and not the food inside. it is the date when the inner lining of the can finally breaks down enough for the metal of the can to react with the contents. this goes for almost any food that does not require refrigeration.

the result are the same, though. food should not be consumed after the expiry date printed on the container, no matter what the container is made of.

Nice avatar, iMark. Where'd you get it, I wonder? :x

Yes, I've eaten spoiled Steak-Ums that were months over expiration. Gave me the worst case of gastroenteritis I ever had.

Eww! That's so nasty.

Yes I've eaten expired food, well it's not really food, it's a drink...soy milk. It was really lumpy & almost made me throw up. The strange thing is that the expiry date said it would be fine for another 2 weeks.

I've eaten expired food, but by a few days. Definitely not years.

(If something expires on June 6, nothing will magically happen on June 7 ... it is not that precise. ;) On the other hand I have many times encountered stuff that seems "off" despite not yet being expired.)

When I was 23 or 24 I found some cans of beer I'd hidden in a crawl space in my parents' house when I was in high school. The born-on date was July 2000, and I found them in 2007.

Of course, I drank them like a dirtbag. 8O

yum yum yum

I think there is a severe illness that can result from eating something canned that has passed its use by date. Can't remember the name of it, though. Think it's Botulism. Rare to happen nowadays, I believe.

I have had food which has been close to expiring, but I don't think I've had food that's actually gone past its expiration date.

Though have got pica and will eat anything from grass to fairy washing up liquid, will refuse any food/drink that have been told is out of date, even if it smells/feels etc ok.

Have never known anyone worse than mum for eating and drinking out of date stuff, she doesn't care if it's out of date.

Yeah, I ate a can of soup a year past the expiration date. There was nothing wrong with it at all. In fact at my dads house we have a cabinet filled with expired soup, and I eat that quite often now. Dont know why i didnt eat it before.

Just be sure the cans aren't dented. That can spoil stuff.
