To clarify, the planned Columbia River Crossing will replace the current bridge
over I-5 and the Columbia River. According to the website, the new bridge will be
three separate bridges. The cost for the new bridge? Around $4 billion.
Bridge One:
1 lane for a future expansion of light-rail to SW Washington
1 lane Bus Only
1 lane Bike Only
1 lane pedestrian only
The other two bridges will be Northbound and Southbound bridges for cars.
On February 25th, Mayor Sam Adams led the Portland City Council
to a sweep vote to approve this new bridge.
What do you think?

If there's no 12-lane Monster Bridge, how else are the monsters supposed to go between Portland and Vancouver? ![]()

I think they should build it. I heard how dangerous the bridge is so thank god I don't have to drive across it. Every time I do, I get so nervous and hope some dumb ass won't crash into me because he or she was in such a hurry. Stupid people.
Even impatiance isn't an aspie trait. I disagree that it is or else lot of people wouldn't get so impatient unless they are all aspies. I once got nasty to a few people behind me at the bank when I was 18 when my dad was opening a checking account for me. They were getting so impatient I finally had enough of their rudeness, so I said something nasty to them and their excuse was "We have a basketball game to get too." I just thought no excuse, should have gone to the bank sooner or just leave or can be flexible about being late to the game. s**t happens.
I do get nasty when people push my buttons. I become bitchy Beth.

First, the monsters can either swim or fly
to get between Portland & Vancouver.
Anyway, why not add another transit-only bridge
and leave the current I-5 bridge as is?
The problem is the I-5 bridge is on the
Registry of Historic Places, so no touchy.
Another problem? Some people in Vancouver don't want light-rail.
If a supposed transit-only bridge is added, it should be built like this:
An 6-lane transit only bridge, three lanes on each side.
1 lane for light-rail
1 lane for buses
1 lane for bikes & pedestrians

They don't want a light rail because they don't want to pay more taxes to have the tracks put in and the wires above it. I remember they rejected the plan in the 90's. I can remember hearing it when I was 12 or 13 just before we moved to Montana.
I can also remember when schools were over crowded there, people kept voting no for new schools. They didn't care about children and their education, all they cared about was themselves and not wanting to pay more taxes and have to take home less money they earned and they probaby didn't have kids in school because they were all grown. My parents helped build that elementary school I went to when I was five years old because their taxes went to it. Then it opened in 1991 when school started again but I didn't start going there until I was 8. I also remember when it was being built because I saw the building being constructed when I was five years old.
