Usually I know exactly how much I'm willing/able to spend on something before I start bidding...usually I'll set the maximum right away. Every once in a while I'll put the max at maybe half, and bid the rest right near the end, or maybe even go a little bit over my limit.
But usually I just accept my loss knowing that at least I jacked up the price for some other jerk, and find another copy to bid on 
Feels good to know that I'm helping the seller make money, but half the time when this happens, it turns out the guy who outbid me ended up not paying =/ That just pisses me off.

Right, but my history only goes back 60 days. Within that time frame I've sniped 2 auctions, those ones were at 12 and 13 seconds. What I can't figure out is how to see older ones than that.

I have gotten them a few times. Always feels good I got the item after all.
When I lose an auction I think of it as I don't have to pay so I have more spending money.
It's always funny to see in the last seconds of the auciton, the price goes up because someone tried to snipe it but still got outbidded by me. I think that only happened once.

My record is placing mine at 14 seconds left of the auction. Then I won the item.
I honestly don't know why we do this. For fun perhaps trying to break our record of bidding in last seconds of the auction.

Hundreds. When I was still buying lots of coins, the competition was pretty fierce. I would wait til the last 10 secs then bid, and hope for the best. You never knew what to bid because everybody else was sniping too, so it was fun.

i love ebay, im currently bidding on a item and since i have such deep pockets im not worried about snipers

i had a dude snip me but his luck ran out. i still won this!
Size: 25x21x5-6 mm This large gemstone comes from Deer Creek Arizona and has nice gemmy colors of green and a touch of pastel. Relatively flat bottomed for a large and convoluted piece. Nice collector or large setting.
