I don't know anything about it, but I want to. I'd especially like to know: is there a forum similar to WP but for Down's Syndrome? (I can only find ones for parents..) I've read the wiki article, but it doesn't help much. What I want is to understand the mind of someone with Down's Syndrome. Anyone know any good resources~?

I don't know much about the topic, myself. But if there is a forum, it would be a forum for the parent of people with Downs Syndrome. As for more information...I would say that searching online and doing a bunch of reading would be your best bet. If you didn't find much the first time, try different search terms like "Downs Syndrome study", etc.... There should be some info out there somewhere. :)

Down Syndrome is a physical as well as mental disability. People with Down Syndrome have some form of mental retardation, usually mild to moderate.

Yeah but I don't really know what that means at all. I mean, I know what it looks like.. just a kind of general lack of mind. And that's always what I thought it was. But since I've been learning about autism, I've learned that it's not that simple. That lady Amanda Baggs just looks like an empty shell too, until you see her videos and read her articles. Is Down's Syndrome like that? I want to understand.

Even though Down's Syndrome is a physical disability that is potentially lethal due to associated congenital heart defects, there are some people with Downs's Syndrome (Trisomy 21) who have intelligence within normal range, though I agree, most people with Trisomy 21 are mentally impaired to some degree.

Generally, people with Trisomy 21 also have speech problems due to the fact that their mouths are sufficiently malformed as to impair proper enunciation.

Wigglyspider,
what about looking for an e-book about downs syndrome on bit torrent?
have just had a quick look on tpb and could only find one there, and dont think are going to be after that one much [it's about telling the downs syndrome child about bleeding every month].

Am have spent most of own lifetime around DSers-schooled with them,SpEd college with them, and living with them.
And there are so many horrible stereotypes that exist of DSers, more so than of Auties/Aspies even support staff and family tend to follow the stereotypes rather than treating individually.

For example, the DS man am have lived with for over a year till recently-David,is classed as the most highest functioning out of everyone else living there,he gets very little help, and is only living there and not in supported living because he has insulin dependant diabetes where he can go into a lot of hypos so needs someone there all the time.
People have a belief that DSers are very unable to do a lot of things, when am got to know David,am let him go on the laptop so he could see the internet,he was great on it,the staff would say he cant have a computer because he would be unable to use one,yet he's better than dad at them now because he's had lessons at the library,David has driven a milk float before with no teaching, and knows everything there is about fishing.

it is very wrong that there is still this unteachable belief of DSers-not all are severely ID or LD-the same as Auties.
There should be a 'wrong planet' type forum for DSers because in an ideal world, the DSers with computer, internet, reading, writing and messaging ability would be able to use it-the problem is not with intellectual disability,as there are many able and high functioning DSers out there,it's because parents, carers and support staff have a lower belief of the DSers abilities, and are not teaching to use computers and internet.
The SpEd school and college am went to did both teach computers [PC and laptop] and the DSers in classes were not treated any differently, but the older generations are commonly left out as far as technology goes.

I never understood how DS causes them to be MR. Why does it effect their mind that way?

Thanks so much, this one post has been the most help so far! What exactly does mental retardation mean to you? (Because the wiki article is long and sort of vague, and I want to hear it from someone who experiences it.)

And I can't find any other torrent than the one you found either. XD; But Maybe I will go to the bookstore soon and see if there are any decent books on the subject there.
