Wow, this thread is completely weirding me out. Is it really common to be super uncomfortable with bodily functions?

I mean periods are kind of stress inducing and inconvenient but they're totally normal and natural. I have opted out of having periods via birth control, when I found out I could basically get rid of my period, I did that. Because it saves money and it saves hassle etc. But I feel like this thread could just as well be about any other bodily function. The "ew yucky" attitude is so bizarre to me.

And what's with the ridiculous, ignorant comments about feminism? Why even bring that up?

My apologies, I've just never been ashamed of my body or my bodily functions that I deal with in private(save for doctor visits) and it's just... yeah, it's weird to see how uncomfortable people are with their bodies.

I've never been grossed out by a period. And I've never thought of it as a fantastic thing ether. Don't know why anyone would...Though months before my first period I was fully prepared to start, I mean its a normal thing and it was going to happen, so why dread it? and when I eventually did i just asked for a pad from my school nurse and went on my merry way totally fine with idea. Not as a sign of "womanhood", just that it was life. Though I do have really terrible rows with my cramps some months and I usually have the worst flows, it doesn't seem wrong or gross. It just to me means that "hey I'm probably healthy because I have one of these for three to five days every month without fail", also it means "hey, I didn't get knocked up, yay for me!" I miss being on the pill though, it kept the silly things evened out for a schedule that ran like clockwork with a three day period once a month with barely any mood swings and dull, barely noticeable cramps. I just find periods to be a silly function. But to call it disgusting? not in the least bit to me.

I don't like periods, but don't mind them either

The only "good" thing with it is that it makes us able to have children. However the whole process is kind of disgusting really, all blood and slime and urgh. I especially hate it when it comes at night because the first days/nights I tend to bleed ALOT so I have to wear two night pads at the same time. Otherwise there will be blood all over my bed.

I don't care.

They don't hurt. I just watch the hygiene, make sure nobody sees it (never happened! Luckily) and wait 'till it's over. Often I don't have a period in like 5 months because I continue to take the pill. Now I stopped taking it and I don't even think about my period because it gives no suffering whatsoever.

Yes, it's a women-only thing but that thought doesn't do much ^_^ I mean, 50% of the world's population is female, and I simply don't see the point in ''pride'' or anything.

Nor in shame, that is. If someone says she's having her period I don't think 'yuck'. I don't have to see her bloody brown red bits etc but I just don't really mind.

It's really good to hear from someone who doesn't have these hang-ups.

Alas, many of us (I would guess, know I'm not alone) in having hard time coping with the corporeality of the body & functions, fluids, orifices, etc.
Intellectually don't want to feel as I do, but still am easily disgusted by anatomy & waste products in particular, unfortunately this sense of shame is incorrigible.
Periods gross me out, yet I have to live with them until menopause hits (which may be in a few years, since I'm 40).

Was on b/c pills 'til age 30, but since I smoke I went off them, to avert the increased cardiovascular risk (since I wasn't going to quit smoking).
The pill made my period less severe, in terms of mess & pain, it's been worse in the decade since then.

I was extremely distressed by the idea of this happening to me once a month for 30-40 years. It has never been that painful, but it's messy and inconvenient. And until I got used to the regularity and they got more predictable, I had some horrible, mortifying moments in 6th-8th grades.

The first one was mortifying for me....in seventh grade, I ad it in the middle of the school day and was sent home early since it was visible....everyone in the class saw it on my pants.

I felt depressed when I first got my period around age 11. The sight of the blood bothered me less than the physical discomfort of wearing pads and feeling icky in my nether regions. I also had a fear that the pads would leak while I was at school. As an adolescent I had a lot of control issues regarding the involuntary changes of puberty and a sex education that taught that sexuality was unhealthy and wrong. It caused me some issues with eating disorders (I induced amenorrhea by restricting my calorie intake) and some issues regarding sexual expression that I didn't resolve until my 20s.

I also found that the menstrual cup made periods less of an issue. (I used the Lunette cup--they come in pretty colors.) However, since I started on Nexplanon my periods have stopped.

I definitely find them gross.
I feel really unwell when I have them. I get migraines and severe abdominal pains. The only time I use painkillers is when I am having my period. Before the actual period starts I suffer from PMS for about two weeks, which involves feelings of depression, anger, rage and buying far too much stuff I don't need.

Luckily I am 46 so it won't be long for they are finally over. The downsightthat I have to go through menopause, first which is even worse than having periods, Being a female is not easy.
