I actually had hyperlexia (and probably still do) so I was a fairly good reader when I was a kid.

However when this timed had bloomed, I had an incident with my father when it came to books and now have a phobia of reading. When I see many words, the page shaken up and I simply can't read a book anymore. In fact after the incident, I moved to numbers and grids. This is when I was about 7 though so speaking of hyperlexia and organizing numbers is a pretty common autistic trait.

It does annoy me when I mention this to others that I simply can't read a book and its hard to f**k to talk about.

It was a terrible incident and I fear for my life when it comes to reading.

According to my dad, I was just shy of my fourth birthday when I asked to be taught to read. I haven't been caught without a book since. In fact, one of my criteria for a purse is that it must be able to hold a trade paperback and my wallet.

My friends joke that I'll read anything that will hold still long enough; I've even been caught reading shampoo bottles if I forget to bring reading material with me into the bathroom. My favorite genres, however, are science fiction, fantasy, historical fiction, biographies, classics, and science books. Among the sciences I like to read about are anthropology, archaeology, evolutionary biology, and astronomy.
