Malls, and Ikea are two places that make me upset...too many choices, too many colors, and being female, I'm supposedly able to magically get it all right. Years ago, before we heard of aspie, a guy friend in the same car group I belong to noticed I was really stressed out about the Ikea portion of every single get together...he felt stress in other public places and was able to spot it right away. He would weed me out toward the back of the pack, keep me from running off and feeling terrorized. He would talk very little, but calmly, grab my wrist if I started to cry or freak, and we would limit our purchases to just batteries and CFL bulbs. Its a lot better now.

That's really cool that he was there to look out for you like that. I understand the origins of why women are supposed to be able to magically get it when it comes to design/etc, but...I really hate it. I'm fine with house decorating, but I can't stand clothing design for myself. I don't give a damn about trends. I'll care about how colors look on me, but if cloth doesn't feel right on my skin, I will not wear it. If you don't understand, try wearing sandpaper sometime and you'll get the feel of what I mean. :P

I'm such an aspie in Ikea. I refuse to go the way everyone else does and always look for the short cuts.

The only reason I really would ever LIKE the mall is if I could go try on very fancy dresses at all of the stores.

Actually, that's all I really go there for with some of my fri8ends, the dresses.

Otherwise, too crowded, no good traffic control, the noise is ungodly, and... sometimes they can be clean, but, too many people in too close of proximity.

Besides, other than the adult stuff, the stuff meant for teenagers ((i.e. clothing)) is completely dreadful, no taste, no style, quite personally, I mean, it's very hard to find something pretty and flattering for someone who actually has curves, I mean, I'm no size two, nor is most of the teenage population, all of the clothes look good on sticks and manniquins, but not on people....

I like shopping for food at the supermarket of for CDs. However, I hate clothes shopping a lot. Whenever my mum brings in a clothes catalogue, I feel like jumping out a window.

Can only tolerate it until I've been through all of the stores I like, after that I would like nothing better than to leave... if it is particularly bussy and I personally don't have a "mission" that requires me to be there (but I'm there anyway 'cause of family) then I'm lible to start getting frustrated which leads to irritability which leads to a need for a bigger personal bubble which I can't have because it crowded and that leads to a minor meltdown if I don't find a wide open space fast enough...

Totally understand about the sandpaper reference, I like cotton, silk, velvet. I had a boyfriend for eight years that did a lot of damage in the clothes department...just constantly on me about the need to buy labels and dressing to impress him. I always wanted to get a bunch of labels, stitch them together, and make a shirt out of it. It would be an art project, and since the labels are always the most uncomfortable part of any clothing, it would make a statement to the wearer.
House decorating upsets me too. I am married now, (to another aspie, thank goodness, but he is a bit more NT than me) and he tried his best to get me to decide the decorations. As a result, the house is full of stuff that looks like it should reflect me, but I only relate to a small portion of it. I just let him go...LOL

The flourescent lights are crazy...the high pitched sounds of the security systems are enough to send you over the edge...Too many sounds, soo much stimulus, lights, people, aaaaargh.

I go when it's super quiet. I try and choose one store to do tactical strikes in. I know what I'm going for, what I'm getting and then get the heck out.

I get all wierded out, and then stop thinking and loose focus. I get panicky, too. Shopping is not a pleasant thing. HOWEVER, and it's a big however...sometimes if it's quiet...I can enjoy it. But it's really, really hard to find an empty quiet store (although hardware stores are really nice in the mid-morning).

I love second hand & thrift stores as the clothes are soft, worn in, and the shops are usually quite small & friendly. Full of old ladies and misfits like me usually

All those preppy stores INSIDE the mall are for NTs...lol. In my opinion anyway. Thats just the way i see it.

I don't HATE malls. But it really depends on my mood. If I don't want to be around people then I just won't go into malls. If I do, then that's exactly where I would go :)

I enjoy going to the mall, but not for clothes shopping. The malls I go to have good specialty stores, like with video games, movies, toys, games and even candy. I don;t really care for cothes shopping because I usually have to try things on, which takes of a lot of time.

Goodwill is my WalMart.

If I have to go shopping in other places, I have a plan, decide what I want and can be in and out in under 40 minutes. 8)

Oddly enough, I love to go grocery shopping. But then I really like to cook.

I used to love going to the mall and looking around (and shopping). I didn't feel that much social anxiety. And I found shopping stimulating.

I usually love shopping, but lately I've not been able to take the noise. My ability to tune it out has definitely lessened :(:(:(
