I htink others are already answering (sorry -- I went to bed!), but I'll reply anyway. :)

They tell you to wear your best-fitting bra, and then they measure you with either the bra, or bra-and-tshirt. No, I wouldn't be able to strip for someone!

Most people end up down a band-size or two, and up in the cups. I found out I was a 34 F, when I had been wearing 36 DD. It's wonderful how much better my clothes look now, with the right support (not that I do much in the sense of fashion!).

Good luck and let us know how it goes! I think you'll be happy with the results!

Oooh, I just Googled, and there are loads of do-your-own-bra-fitting websites. Just use the words BRA FITTING and you'll get some good results. Then you can try on at the store and go from there. Do remember that different brands will fit slightly different, so while I'm a 34F, a few types won't fit quite as well as others -- I'd say try 4 or 5 for the best fit?

Oh I wasn't having an appointment or anything. To be honest, I don't know where I'd go for a fitting besides Victoria's Secret. Since I don't have a car and can't drive, I'd have to take someone else along for the awkwardness. I'd do it myself if I had measuring tape. I just have a regular stiff ruler. I can see if I can borrow one from someone sometime. :/

See this calculator:

Works in cms, but it's easy to convert in Google. It's the best calaculator I know.
See website in my signature and Bfcidade's blog. Bfcidade sometimes comes to WP.

I was once trying to measure something without a tape measure -- I finally just used a long belt or sash or something, held my finger where it measured, and then measured that with the ruler. (Does that make sense? Things don't always come out right.)

Good idea. I have a costume rope in my closet I could use. BRB. :D

Well...I've tried it two different ways and one said I'm a 42DD and another says I'm a 42D. I don't think I'm that big though. I thought I was a 40C. My breasts don't seem big enough to be a D. I'm more upset about the increased band size though. Girls aren't supposed to be that big around. :( Based on this my band size will be bigger than my mom's, unless she's wearing the wrong size too. Sadness. D:

Well, now you'll have to go do some trying on and see how it goes! I think bra sizes vary from US to UK, so be sure the chart you used is US (if that's where you are?).

This guy I work with moans every day about how unfair it is that the men have to wear ties to work, and women don't. I feel like telling him to strap himself into an underwired bra for 12+ hours and day, and decide if a tie or a bra is more comfortable. He really annoys me. Every day he's whining about something. (And hey, men don't have to wear a tie all weekend, but I do have to wear a bra is I go out of the house! It's a 7 day a week thing for most of us!)

Yeah, it was a US chart. I don't know how long it's going to be before I go clothes shopping again. I didn't even know you were allowed to try on bras before buying them. I thought it was considered unsanitary. D:

I don't understand men like them. I wore a tie once and it's not that bad. It's like a silky necklace really. If it hurts him, he's probably wearing it wrong or he's a p****. :/

Yup, you can try on bras, in the US as well (I'm from there, so I'm sure). It's bottoms you can't try on, for sanitary reasons!

This guy is a real woman-hater, so it's always women he complains about, that they always get everything easier and better in life. :P

I have to get upstairs and sew -- I have no trousers. Have been wearing skirts and sandals for two weeks, but it's getting cold, so it's time to crank up the sewing machine. I got fabric for 4 new pair: black, dark grey, black plaid, and deep green corduroy.

I'm apparently a 44B and I really didn't think mine were that small, or that I was that big around. But remember, it's just an arbitrary number/letter combination that companies have made up. Try not to let it upset you. Won't you feel better wearing a proper size, over a size that you wish you could be? Then you'll look thinner, and you'll stand straighter, and it will be much more comfortable.

I guess. It just makes me sad that I'm always going up sizes no matter what I do. Things are more expensive the bigger you are because it uses more fabric, that and the clothing companies want to make us feel bad by making us pay more for uglier plus-size clothes. I'm too poor to afford to buy a s**t load of bigger bras. I don't think I'm really all that uncomfortable in a 40C though. The straps suck but that's about it. My boobs fit inside the C cup so I thought that meant it fits. :(

Well the cup size isn't all that needs to fit. The band is supposed to sit in a certain spot, which then makes the straps sit properly, and holds the girls up, and it all works together. I think a lot of women wear the wrong size, but they're used to it, so it doesn't occur to them that it might not be right. That doesn't mean your current bras are no longer useable, just that you're likely to feel better whenever you get the chance to buy the correct size.

Where is the band supposed to hit? Mine sits an inch or so below the shoulder blades. I thought that was correct but maybe it's not. I don't think it's too tight either as I can fit two fingers under the band in the back. >.>

I think the band is supposed to be so that it's level with the front. So, stand side-to the mirror, and look at the back of the band and it should be level (straight across -- not up or down, compared to the front of the band).

I think.
