Oh! I thought we were just talking outward appearances. Yes, I like knitting, too (all fabric arts, really) and cooking. All my hobbies are girly. Except the kickboxing. And even then I wear big earrings.

I'd be afraid they'd get ripped out! But that's another one for me--I like dangly earrings.

I'm a complete tomboy in most respects. However, I do spend quite a bit of time on keeping my hair nice and have a fondness for jewellery, and occasionally like to dress up a bit feminine.

My favorite knit designer and my favorite chef are both males! LOL

I see a lot of boards here with people who just dress to be comfortable and don't really care about fashion and stuff like that. While I appreciate that point of view, I've always enjoyed fashion and find being girly as a fun thing. I mean, if it was ever a chore for me, then I wouldn't do it, it's not that important, but I love the way I feel when I feel cute and I'm wearing just the right amount of make-up. It doesn't make me stupid or not as logical and smart as I am, it's just the way I am. I still value some form of comfort :)
Anybody out there sort of like that?

Yep that's me. I feel naked when I don't wear makeup. I enjoy looking cute and that makes me happy.

When I was a toddler, I HATED the word "cute". Something about it felt demeaning and diminuitive, like the way you'd dismiss a child. (Never mind that I was a child. I never thought of myself as a child. I also had a hard time with the word "kids" and would refuse to refer to my age-peers as "kids" because the word felt wrong and damaged to me.) Grown ups would tell me I was cute and I'd yell "Kit Dat!" (Quit That) "I'm not Cute!!"

They'd ask me, "then what are you?" and I'd declare, "BYOOTIFUL!!"

I still don't really want to be cute. Beautiful, elegant, powerful, dynamic, even attractive, but not cute. Cute is a four-letter word to me. (heh)

I'm better at putting on makeup than I am at choosing clothes. I tend to pick comfort and what flatters me with clothes. I play it safe. This is because I'd wear very weird 'vintage' stuff when I was younger. I only wear makeup about 3 times a week. I don't like wearing overly-fussy outfits.

I am absolutely terrible at anything involving textiles - I end up sewing things to my hands. I can cook reasonably well. I'm quite nurturing and I think that's my main stereotypically 'female' trait.

I'm still not very girly by NT standards.

I can understand that. I've been called "cute" all my life, and I hated it when I was younger. I've since learned that it is (usually) a compliment, and have learned to appreciate it. I think it's great when someone finds my "quirkiness" to be cute. I agree, though, that it would be nicer to be thought of as beautiful, elegant, attractive, or pretty. Only one man has called me beautiful, and he turned out to be a complete creep (I believe "whackjob" would be the technical term). I'm not sure whether this makes me sad or just makes me think I should find it sad, but I find the fact that I think of it at all to be very girly.

I can relate to what you're saying, Kaybee. One man composed a song about me and another man drew a charcoal portrait of me that was four feet tall and two feet wide. But, sadly, the composer was a whackjob and the artist was . . . well, I think the technical term is abusive asshat. And I think it's very girly that I think that writing a song about me or making a portrait of me is very romantic but I just wish someone else had done one of those things! Anyone else! LOL

Girly here! I tend to purchase classic, quality clothes that suit my body type, rather than what's "in." Occasionally, my husband buys me something that is "in," as he is far more fashion conscious than I! I prefer skirts and dresses to pants. I wear makeup and jewelry, and spend a lot of time on my hair. It's a fairly simple style, but I have a crazy double cowlick so it takes a lot of effort to get it to look neat. Most of my interests are stereotypically masculine -- video games, football, bromance and action movies -- but I like how those contrast with my very feminine appearance. I take pleasure in all things pretty, soft, and shiny!

That goes for me too. I'm not necessary girly, but I have a feminine appearance and very specific preferences about style. I make half of my clothes (and some jewellery) and I like embroidery and unusual designs. I use a bit of make up - more to correct than cover and do love jewellery :)

i am definitely into fashion. i used to sew and sell my own designs online. but trying to sell things that people would 'want' killed my creativity.

anyway, i love to wear unusual and fun stuff, like extravagantly decorated handmade hats. i mix & match stuff a lot. i aspire to be a nutty fashion icon in my senior years. for now, i think i dress quirky a lot of the time.

but.... i do like black skinny jeans!

I love hats... It would be cool to have a thread with hand made stuff - I'd love to see what others make...

Do you have any pictures with your designs?

these are a few of the things i actually sold. the red top was supposed to have a subtle heart shape. the skirt was a wrap around-and-around-and-around skirt, then a vest/top with a frog closure of my own devising (i think a woman bought it for her bellydancing costume), and lastly a tunic with innovative sleeves.

i used only secondhand (but largely unused) fabrics, and mostly secondhand trims. it bothered me to use new materials when so much quality stuff was being discarded on adaily bais.

everything i made was a little odd, and i did NOT impress a lot of people, though i had a few fans! i also devised something i called flannel board t-shirts (see it in the thread of aspie inventionshere)

and i made jewelry and stuff as well. i'm kind of embarrased to show these pics now.

Those are great - a bit too "young" for my style these days, but I would still buy the first one - both the colours and design are fantastic.

I don't usually take pictures, as I don't sell anything, but here are two shirts I've recently embroidered.

(Apologies to the OP for derailing the thread - I should just make a new one for this)

I have an associates degree in Fashion Design... I enjoy fashion, yet hate it at the same time. I don't follow runway shows or trends. If I could do it all over again, I would rather study costume history or design. I am much more historical and nostalgic by nature, especially when I choose my outfits. Everything is in accordance to my mood or references a memory of the past. My parents are convinced that I try to look like a nerd, but it's really just my style. I wear glasses to hide my face, yet wear clothes that probably draw some attention. I wear tights and sometimes spend quite a bit of time doing my make-up and hair... but I never keep it up.

Actually, I look to antiquated literature about beauty regimens for inspiration. (One of my special interests) I wish that I could deck myself out completely, but hate the attention all the while. I am loathe to spend hours in a shopping mall, but will buy everything under the sun online.

One thing that is for sure is that I could never wear heels, unless they're comfortable. And I can't stand when colors don't go well together. So I often wear black and neutral colors.

I guess my interests are kind of girly... But I truly value comfort and practicality.
