Is it normal for a 17 year old to feel like this?

Sorry to hear you're going through that. At least you are sensible enough that you realize that actually having a baby isn't an option. So well done for that.

Myself, I'm the exact opposite. I totally don't identify with the 'mother' part of being a woman, and the idea of having a baby makes me want to puke. I also find young children really stressful to be around. I don't find them cute, I just end up wishing I had an electroshock device. :D

Your natural maternal instincts are kicking in. You just stand out in this forum because there are so many of us here who don't appear to have maternal instincts. I'm used to hearing NT girls talk about how excited they are for motherhood and how they plan to carry it out. It's rare that I experience this feeling for human children, but I do experience it strongly for animals. I'm going to have fur children.

Me too. I have one already. My cat is my baby.

I LOATHE human children though. Seriously they get on my freaking nerves. It amuses me to wonder how far I could kick them.

Just don't end up like "Victoria" on the Maury show and you will be fine...

I think babysitting or helping out at a daycare would be a really good idea for you if you really like kids. Just ask someone you feel comfortable with to maybe help hook you up with people.

Me, I'm 17 and I don't really, really want a kid and never did really because I know that they are a lot of work and all of that work, especially when I don't have a husband to help support me. Raising children is not intended to be a one-person job.

I wanted to be a mother once, after I watched that movie in which Arnold Swarzenegger got pregnant (oh Arnie). But a quick brush-up on biology revealed that wasn't going to happen.

My oldest daughter is like you... she has a mommy pull but she just turned 15. She wants to be a child advocate lawyer so clearly pregnancy hinders her plans and she has no intention of having kids before she is 25 at least... She has been babysitting for awhile now. She has a few regulars she sits for. Some are older kids so she can take them to parks and things like that. The other two people she sits for have younger kids... one is about two and a half, the other lady is our neighbor and she has twin babies.. I mean little like three months or something and my daughter goes over there when the lady needs to run to the bank or the store or something and it works because I'm right across the street if she should need me. It has really helped her get her baby fix and she makes bank for playing at parks and swooning over babies. It's a win win situation. I'm happy for her because she really likes the responsibility and it makes her feel good about herself while taming the baby pull. Plus the kids think she's really cool because she will do fun and crazy stuff with them. You seem like the 'cool babysitter' type. I hope you can find some kids to sit for. I bet you'll have a blast.

It's probably abnormal not to feel like that :D
Do you have any ideas of what you would name your babies if you were ever to have them?
