All the awful aboriginal settlements out in the middle of nowhere as a child.

Catholic school in a small southern town with the bigots and hypocrites.
I had very many meltdowns in that hell.

Small ,southern and predominantly white, American towns are among the worse places in the world.
I actually like big cities with a diverse group of people.

Chuck E. Cheese sucks.

So do Lost Wages and Bridgeport, CT. Is the sky still orange in mid-afternoon???

New York City definitely bit the big one. For obvious reasons. Also Meridian, Mississippi. Stopped there for about half an hour once-- the feeling was that neither side had gotten over the Civil War quite yet.

West Memphis, Arkansas. Nasty little town.

But I think I'd have to give the award to my dear old home, the Upper Monongahela Valley. Beautiful scenery. Lovely location. Wonderful place. The people are, for the most part, beyond a shadow of a doubt the nastiest, most self-righteous, un- (make that anti-) diverse, most judgmental, narrow-minded, vicious, status-worshipping, foul, shit-eating scum suckers I have encountered in my travels.

For me, Las Vegas, NV. I went there for a conference and was not very excited by the city choice.

I had my first public meltdown there.

I was propositioned for sex by a man yelling from his truck across the intersection I was walking across ("How much?")

So much sensory stimulation from the flashing lights, noise and traffic, cigarette smoking, vomit...

Oh and the crowds.... the crowds are what really did me in... I went to the conference and then locked myself in my hotel room all the time that I didn't spend walking to and from the convention center. I survived on trail mix, miso soup and tea because I didn't want to leave to get real food.

What is(are) the worst place(s) any of you have ever been?

Going to Las Vegas and traveling around wasn't a problem for me. I was not a big fan of the LV convention center and the casinos tho. Depending on what trade show you go to, they tend to get pretty crowded at times and I was really uncomfortable with that. There are people walking in from all kinds of directions and people are constantly staring at you to see whether you're a buyer or an exhibitor. In the streets, people try to hand you fliers for prostitutes and I did get one from a random guy  I still have it somewhere in my room, kept it just for the fun of it.

Worst place: the Seattle Greyhound terminal. It felt like a prison cafeteria, only with worse decor. :help:

SO true! The last time I was there I ended up with an extra 6 hour wait because my bus got in too late to catch the one I was transferring to.

I was in Vegas during the crazy heatwave in north American 7 years ago. Ugh. I was living on a bus full of hippies, and we were looking in restaurant grease dumpsters to make fuel for the bus. Sometimes fun, but not when it's midnight, 90 degrees, and you're covered in filthy oil, in a disgusting city like LV.

Re: small southern towns, Jasper & Parthenon, Arkansas are two of my favorite places in the world. And they're tiny!

The hospital.

I've been to hospitals many times due to getting sick so often and having heart and stomach problems as a child, and I have never minded hospitals before. But I was never hospitalized up until last year.
And it was from depression. *facepalm*

First of all, the town I live in is famous for being the 'cleanest' town in the state. The town where the hospital that I stayed in was kind of labeled as "the dangerous place." As a result, I wasn't used to being around so many violent people even if they were my age. I was terrified of the other patients, and the only one that was there for depression. A few other kids who came in from depression did come after a few days of being there, but I still had pretty bad experiances at the place.

And the huge lack of privacy was a pain too. Not only did I have to ask everytime I wanted to use the bathroom (because the door was always locked), but there was also a camera, making the showers the only private places in the hospital. There was also a lot of pressure on me, since it depended on my behavior to get out of that place. I seemed calm the entire time, but I felt horrible because I had absolutely no alone time, and even the slightest sign of anxiety or a breakdown could keep me in the place longer. I even realized that I was just relieved of a huge headache I had the entire time when I was discharged.

As a result, I've hated going to any sort of hospital, even though it was only for small appointments.

I think I'd like Vegas, but I would not want to be alone ever. Being propositioned happened to me once in an average suburban neighborhood, and it was really bothersome.

I don't like busy cities in general. Traffic, air pollution, pushy crowds, etc.

Your subject made me think of gross bathroom facilities. Port a potties and worse :(

New Orleans. I went as an 11-year-old with my mom and her friends for a couple of days to see the King Tut Exhibit and had the creeps the whole time. Then I went back accidentally in my mid 20's (long story involving a good bit of alcohol, but I'd sobered up a lot by the time we got there) and got the creeps again. I'm not into the paranormal, but that place is not normal for me. I'd be willing to give it one more chance.
