Girly vs Tomboy

I really don't get these labels. Labels are good for jars, bad for people.
I like to play video games and even though almost half of all gamers are female it's still seen as something only guys enjoy.
I hate sports, about the only physical activity I don't completely suck at is swimming, and I'm lucky I can tie my own shoes (seriously), yet I seldom wear anything other than jeans and t-shirts.
I enjoy making arts and crafts, although it's mainly drawing cartoons and making dolls of my characters.
I like the colors pink and light purple.
When I was a very young I went through a phase would wear nothing but dresses! I once even wanted to wear a dress to the beach! But my mom convinced me that a bathing suit would be better.
When in my preteens I became interested in painting my fingers and toenails, mainly because I'd like the way they'd shimmer underwater when I went swimming. Almost mermaid-like. Which isn't that far from the truth since nail polish is often made with fish scales. Now I find painting my nails not worth the trouble since they chip five minutes after I put it on.
I have to keep my hair short because it's very thick, and would be too difficult to manage if it were long. I had much longer hair as a little girl but looking after it was a huge pain, especially in the summer when I'd spend more time outdoors and went swimming a lot.

Why can't a female be a healthy balance of tomboy and girly? And I'm sure most girly girls have tomboy moments, and vice verca.

Well, tomboyish it should seem would be a mater of the observers perspective, what do they consider feminin or masculine. as for me I do not like contact sports, never play them never watch them, but does that mean I am not masculine?

What I consider tomboyish is a girl who does not mind rough housing, likes to get out and go hiking or exploring and rock climbing. that would climb a tree with me, and has no problem fixing mechanical things or doing house repairs when needed. stuff like that. and now and then wears pants instead of always dresses.

So, what do you consider tomboyish other then the ways you dress?

Both. I wanted to dress up in my princess gown and swordfight. Still do.

I'm a tomboy. When I was a child my mom was getting me girly clothes and I was wearing those but that's where my girly nature ends. I was the kind of girl that likes climbing trees, collect snails and bugs, plays with Lego, destroys stuffs to see how they work and follows her father when he does housework. During my puberty I totally stopped wearing skirts and dresses. I still wear only jeans. And at age 20 I got a really short haircut and was wearing male clothes. I was looking like a teenage boy.
My hair is longer now and I wear female clothes but I still don't go out in skirts (however I wear dresses for weddings) and don't wear make up.
I can fix stuffs at home by myself and I hate cooking. I got quite a lot of clothes (all sporty style) but only 6 pairs of shoes (including winter boots and summer sandals) .

I wasn't too girly as a child. I did have a box full of barbie dolls, but I preferred to play with my Thomas the Tank Engine train play set. But there are a lot of girls toys I did play with too, like My Little Ponies, Betty Spaghetti dolls, and Polly Pockets.

When I was a toddler I preferred to take a teddy bear out with me rather than a doll.

But I have noticed that not all little girls are always girly. When my cousin was growing up with me (she's NT) she liked to wear dresses and had a lot of dolls to play with, but also loved ''rough and tumble'' games too. We often went on some great adventures together using our imaginations and plenty of good trees to climb and other things to climb and jump over.

I don't think I'm really either. Visibly I probably come off more masculine, but it's mostly for comfort and a distaste for wasting money when I don't need to. I like more masculine-associated things, such as video games and tech (I know it's a bit more evenly spread now than it used to be) and I don't really care TOO much about keeping my appearances. But I have a fondness for dollmakers and magical girl anime, and certainly wouldn't be adverse to occasional makeup or wearing more overtly feminine clothes.

I think I was pretty similar, maybe leaned a tad bit more toward masculine, as a child. But eh.

I've always been a tomboy and probably always will be. I'm 16 and have always worn boys clothes and done more boyish activites and sports, although i have long hair (which i like sometimes but i don't look right with short hair). I am completely straight and have a boyfriend, who loves how I am- he's glad I don't wear silly expensive, impractical shoes and loads of make-up. He considers me his best friend as well as his girlfriend, which he really likes too its a bit tough being a tomboy sometimes as people (especially at school) think i'm a lesbian or transgender which can cause misunderstandings. I like being me

For me whats weird is that I was more girly when I was younger maybe till 8 or 9. Then I just stopped caring, and was neither. When I was 18-20 I was trying to find myself, I found myself becoming a tomboy. I sorta grew into being a tomboy which is funny cause for most girls are the opposite.

Im strong (for my body type) and physically active. While I dont really play sports, Im a lot more open to playing sports. Which was strange, cause when I was young I was one of those girls who were scard of sports and didnt wanna get out there. I tackle and fight my guy friends sometimes for fun. Im probably more willing to say play dodge ball now. I was too prissy as a young girl.

I dont like dressing up, seldomly wear makeup. Im very into science/math subjects, like debating, talk politics and social issues. And get along with guys better. Can get very engaged in technical, subject based topics. I curse frequently, blunt, and not all that lady like.

I feel more comfy in uni-sex clothes , both becoz they don't portray me as either butch or femme and becoz they're just way more practical ...even down to the pockets, which 'womens clothes' rarely have enough of (let alone big enough for a money pouch and keys etc!) ...which i think is a plot to get women to carry bags everywhere (vs men being enabled to have both hands free for doing stuff!) ^^^^^ i mostly wear thongs (coz they don't mess with your clothes), but I like both french knickers & boxers (according to my mood / the clothes i'm gonna wear) coz they're loose ...it's just as well the person who invented nylon tights is already dead ;-) ^^^^^ my brain has never liked the fact that some of what i do is used as an excuse to call me 'typically female' while other things i do 'makes' me get labelled as a tomboy ...even my 'shyness' and 'meltdowns' get genderized! ^^^^^ i see myself as a human who likes doing a variety of things; i don't think my sexuality is the only bit of my brain that's bisexual, and i hate the way the world insists on trying to tear it apart.

Funny you should say that about pockets. I personally love wearing skirts, but also love pockets, so when i get a skirt that's got pockets I feel like I've hit the jackpot. Weirdly if someone says "I like your skirt," I will reply, "thanks, it's got pockets!" and they look surprised, not expecting that to be my response. Never really thought about how often I do that till I read your pocket comment above.

I am a tomboy. no if's buts or maybes. this makes people upset as I look like the person who would fit being a girly girl due to my natural looks.

I am currently 16. My personality is that of a male's. I was a huge tomboy when I was younger. When I turned 15 and was allowed to wear makeup, I seldom did. A couple weeks ago I started wearing eyeliner which is the only girly thing about me. I'm not sure how to identify. I believe if I label myself a tomboy, people will tell me different because I wear eyeliner. People poke fun at me for "becoming a girl", which is probably why I'm hesitant to care about clothing and similar.

I'm an even mix of both. I like fashion, clothing and makeup. I dress feminine unless I'm not going out in public (unless going to get the mail counts).

Other than that, I'm tomboyish for the most part. Most of the music I listen to isn't what girly-girls would listen to. My sense of humor is pretty much what you see on South Park and Scary Movie 2.

I also play a lot of video games and sometimes play as male characters in fighting games.

So basically, you have a gamer who just happens to be a bookworm and fashion fanatic at the same time

It shifts, sometimes I am hyper effeminite and other times I feel that I am a male. However I had always had this problem of people try to effeminize me a tad too much, even more by steryotipical female standards.

It's hard to explain but it seems that people want to reanimate me in this hyper effeminite drone who cannot even bother to touch around her life. It's almost unbearable to function and its suffocating.

I am a real girly girl even as a kid the only thing that I guess is more boyish is that I like comic books but that being said I've always been into girly things like I collect barbie dolls,love makeup and I collect a lot of perfume,I'm also fascinated by the history of makeup and like reading about on the net and have my favourite eras.

Don't really feel like I am particularly girly or tomboyish...more just androgynous. When I was a kid I remember much of the time leaned more towards things boys where more into like, I like action cartoons/shows like The Ninja Turtles, Power Rangers though I did watch some shows more aimed at girls..but yeah had action figures, cars, barbies, dolls and liked to go out and play with sticks, in the mud and explore around. As I got older didn't really develop any super feminine intrests, still don't wear make up really though on occasions I have put it on or have let people do my make up. In high-school a lot of times I got comments like 'are you a boy or a girl' because I would wear guys pants and shirts mostly though I had some more feminine shirts/clothes but did not wear them often I also had short hair during much of my teens.

As of now I have long hair, I have a couple necklaces and a leather arm bracelet I wear but that is about it on jewelry. My style I guess is largely androgynous, I mostly wear skinnyish straight leg pants/jeans I like if they have patterns and then lots of band t-shirts and some of other things I like such as my Game of Thrones shirt and one that references Gandalf from lord of the rings, love comfortable sweaters hooded, zip up, button up whatever if I like it and its comfy. Aside from that pretty much wear sort of vintage like stuff button up shirts with designs, jackets I've gotten from thrift stores...sort of go for the early Pink Floyd look at times. As for shoes gotta have rather high topped shoes like converse or the shoes marketed as 'skater' shoes but I dont skateboard just find them comfortable...or boots, finally found some black boots with a rather vintage look sadly they are not actually vintage. Enough about my clothes though aside from that I am mostly into music, going to concerts to listen to music not because 'omg so and so from that band is so hott'. I like spiders, being outside, camping...hanging out, having a couple beers, smoking a joint...I do not care about trying to look 'pretty' I like to wear stuff I like the look of but am not going for 'attractive/pretty female' per say. I am more liable to be going for 'Do I look like I could be a member of pink floyd or some other old psychdelic band in their early days? yes, well lets go out and rock this outfit' But yeah I don't feel quite like a male trapped in a female body...but don't feel like identify too much with the female gender either.
