I wish there was another option! For me, it depends on who uses them. I hate for strangers to call me "hon," "honey," "cutie," "darling," or anything of the sort. I'll usually say something caustic back.
However, it's cool from my loved ones. I have a friend who calls me "chickadee" or "honey" all the time. I call her "hot mama." It's just our way of chatting and I'm fine with it.
My father had a million cutsie nicknames for me...lambchop, Agnes Daddy (from Agnes Dei, which means Lamb of G-d -- so Agnes Daddy is a pun, meaning Lamb of Daddy), angel, prize...most commonly I was precious princess. My mom calls me prize or toots. Both parents call me and each other sweetheart, which can sometimes mean one parent says, "Hey, sweetheart?" and the other parent and I both say, "Yes?" I have never minded my parents using silly pet names for me. My husband and I also have a lot of pet names for each other, ranging from the Gaelic "mo grian" and "mo esaga" to common things like handome (him) and babydoll (me).
We gave our dog endless silly nicknames!
