Nope.
Complete waste of money to be honest IMO; I'm happy with the way I look, if noone likes that, then that's their problem.
I'm not gonna spend money to put slap on my face for the sake of others.

Okay, I just want to put this out here.

It is possible for women to wear makeup just because THEY think that they look good in it. It is possible for women to do makeup just because they think it is fun. And most importantly: makeup does not make you stupid.

Sure, some girls wear it because they want to fit in in their surroundings, but if you choose to wear makeup...it does not automatically mean that you break for peer pressure.

Not everyone wears it because they feel insecure or because they are trying to adapt to others opinions. I, myself, wear it because it think it is fun. I like what you can do with makeup (and trust me, people who knows their stuff can do amazing things!). And I think I look better with some makeup. What's wrong with that, really? ;)

Also, in general, caring about you appereance does not make you weak or any less of an intelligent, brilliant woman!

Also, @TeaEarlGreyHot - I am interested in hearing your opinions on makeup. Sounds like you can bring some interesting ones to the table?

Peace!

I am personally more interested as to why expressions of opinion that did not contain personal attacks caused such a defensive outburst. I have followed this thread from the beginning and I didn't see anyone calling people stupid because they wore make-up or because of some other reason.

But there are people who wear it 'because they feel insecure or because they are trying to adapt to other people's opinions', so what, does that make them less of 'intelligent, brilliant women'? Humans learn by imitation, you know.

Excuse me? 'Defensive outburst'? Explain yourself please. I like to debate. I like to start debates.

One thing I do admit is that yes, I did write the...uhm...thing (I'm Swedish, I do not know what to call it) after I read some of the others replys. It just seemed like they generalized that everyone who wears makeup is insecure and that annoyed me. Plus it is an opinion I've seen on other forums too, so that may have triggered it. I'm sorry if anyone felt I was targeting them.

And second of all - what? Of course it doesn't! Peoples' reasons to wear or to not wear makeup is not anything I should even mix in with. Why would anyone who does it because they are insecure be any less? There could be lots of reasons to do it. Insecure girls are neither unintelligent nor less brilliant than anyone else. My point was that (not necessarily) people who choose not to often looks down on girls who wear makeup. And the other way around, not going to deny that.

What makes someone less is being mean and judgemental, honestly.

What is your opinion on the matter, Severus?

What matter, exactly? I stated my own opinion on make-up previously and I have no new ideas about, really.

I view make up as a mask, and therefore a lie.

I think this is why I focus so much on nail varnish rather than face makeup. I like the look of the face stuff but once it's on, I can't see it. Whereas I can always see my hands. I love the colour and the sparkle that catches my eye, especially as I type.

yes.

i went without it for 10 or 15 years, but now i am having fun with makeup again. my skin is sensitive so i can't wear any brand, and i have to replace it often to avoid irritation. when i was a kid i used to put it on my friends. it's like washable paint on skin, and i'm an artist, so i find it kind of fun to play with it.

...Blegh.

I really don't like that. We'll see whether or not I bother with it, but it really shouldn't matter :X I didn't for my current job, but this one is temporary, not so sure about a fulltime position...

I understand about wearing a suit/professional outfit to the interview, and appearing your best, good shoes, good purse/necklace/earrings, etc, but... makeup seems somehow more. Guys don't have to, and there are just as many guys with facial scars, acne, etc... the interviewers look past those physical traits for them, so why does wearing makeup make a difference for women? I'm not exactly applying to be their pretty little trophy.

Meh! We'll see...

Allergic. Don't care enough to get some natural makeup for sensitive skin.

yep, i know what you mean. and not only is there an unspoken expectation for a woman to wear makeup, it is supposed to be applied in a natural-looking way with a light touch. which is not the way i wear it. when i wear makeup, i don't see the point in having it on my face unless it is visible (and preferably colourful).

women are judged for whether they wear makeup, and also how it is applied. our exterior selves have to fit into a particular type, or we can actually affect our employment opportunities.

If you want to wear it, go for it. I generally don't, because I'm not very good at applying it. But I love it. I don't think any women should be expected to wear it. But, I can see how it can help at a job interview or similar situation, IF it makes you feel good about yourself. If you feel good, you look good, and you show more confidence - which is a great thing for a potential employer to see. But if you don't like how you look in it, or you feel uncomfortable wearing it, you are jeopardizing your chances at that job. Same with a date, really.

I am trying to wear all-natural, or close to it, makeup. My skin is super oily, and I think in many ways it has to do with using over-harsh cleansers and putting too many chemicals on my face. I've found a natural cleanser that is really helping. I can go a whole day at work without having to wipe the oil off my face now! It's fantastic.

Because of this, I can start to wear more makeup, as long as it's natural. Before the oil would build up and make me look gross. I love the mineral-type foundation, too. It's easy to apply and doesn't feel nasty. Here's the stuff I get:

http://76.162.146.81/gto/store/epp_index.asp

Plus this lady does samples, which is awesome, as I have no idea what color I would need otherwise.

But anyway, when I do wear makeup, it's usually only black eyeliner on the bottom, black mascara top and bottom, some shimmer powder around my eyes to make me look more awake, and some faint lip gloss. I'll be adding more foundation now, and I'd like to figure out how to do eyeshadow, as I'd love to do the smoky purple eye look.

Usually - no, I don't wear it, and that doesn't bother me at all.

I might wear makeup 0-5 times per year. I dislike having to worry about it and spend time on it. The makeup kit I have was originally my mothers, and some of the things in there are probably older than I am. I have occasionally tried wearing it when I wanted to not appear many years younger than I am but I gave up on that after someone mistook me for a 14 year old while I was wearing makeup and full formal robes for receiving my bachelors.

Oh, be careful with that. It's not really a good idea to share makeup with other people anyway (the possibility for passing infections is there), but makeup expires too.

I enjoy makeup. I own probably over 50 different kinds of eye shadow and I love thinking of new color combinations! I also like eyeliner, lip gloss, blush, and foundation (to hide my blemishes), I'm told I'm really good at applying makeup, so it boosts my self-confidence when I wear it.

i did an experiment at work the other day. i have been wearing makeup at work on most days for the last year. on thursday i didn't wear any, but i still dressed the same and combed my hair as usual.

my friends at work acted the same. my acquaintances at work didn't seem to want to say hello. usually i intentionally smile or nod at people walking by (i am practicing eye contact), but they wouldn't look in my direction for long enough. strangers overlooked me completely.

so, if my intention had been to blend in more, it would have worked. but i'm sure other people have different experiences. this was one workplace on one day with one experimenter.
