Interview for Female Aspies
Screening Questions (these are just used so I can group demographics together and hopefully flesh out my charater)
1- How old are you now? 19
2- How old were you when you heard of asperger's/were diagnosed? 18 (not diagnosed, but suspecting and started going to a psychologist this month - it could also be general anxiety disorder or borderline)
About the diagnosis:
How did you hear of Asperger's/get your diagnosis?
Someone who has Asperger's herself and told me I probably was autistic, too.
Life Before Asperger's:
1- Describe to me how you viewed yourself pre-diagnosis.
As a kid self-centered/arrogant, I liked being weird and different, smart and very artistic. I thought I had tons of friends, but looking back, I only had a couple, and the others remind me of 'that weird kid that used to draw all the time'.
In my teens I've become really socially anxious when I figured out the way I was, wasn't normal at all. I never noticed it until I got bullied. I became depressed, had problems with sleeping and eating...
2- What did you struggle with most?
Coping with bad feelings, not being socially lazy and not losing sight on the important things with my "phases".
Life After Asperger's Diagnosis/Suspected diagnosis
1- Did you functioning level change after diagnosis?
No.
2- How do you view yourself now/right after diagnosis?
I'm still waiting on a diagnosis, having one would be a 'relief'
3- What do you struggle with now?
Severe social anxiety.
5- How important is gender to you? Do you relate more to males or female NT's? other aspies? Other people with other types of disabilities/issues
As a kid, I only had male friends and acted like a boy. The past years I started dressing slightly more feminine, but I can't wear skirts, dresses etc. My best friend's an AS. Some of my other friends have problems with drugs and depression.
6c-Are there parts of being an Aspie you love?
I always get a lot of compliments about my talents.
7- What's your "aspie-talent" if you have one? If you don't- does it bother you that most people assume all aspies have such "super-talent?"
Drawing and songwriting (instrumental).
8a- does your diagnosis play into how you feel about having children?
No.
8b- do you feel capable of being a mother to someone- now or in the future?
I can do everything for someone as long as I love him/her. I could be a mother and raise them perfectly, though it'd be better to just have one, because more would be too exhausting.
9- Do you have good aspie friends? non-aspie friends? If not when was the last time you had a good friend and does it bother you that you don't have one?
I have 3 good friends, all the other ones are just ex-classmates and we don't see each other anymore actually, so I think I just have 3 friends.
10- Are you "girly"? Do you wear make-up? Bother with getting "gussied up"? Do you do it for you or for others? Are there parts of personal hygiene that make no sense to you/you struggle with?
I'm not a typical girl, but I do wear skinny jeans and on some occasions in the past half year I even wore a necklace! I can't stand ear jewelry, though. You'll never see me wear dresses, or skirts, or feminine shoes.
