Best solution a quick wipe of the seat after every use.

Definately the best solution. I don't mind if it's up or down, just make sure it's clean. and make sure there are no drips on the floor either.

It's what I personally do, I live with my 2 siblings (bro and sis) and I always do a quick soapy or Dettol wipe before use (because I can't rely on brother, he's opposite in that) and quick wipe after. Not very economized but I am a cleaning ocd lol.

And I refuse to pee sitting, it's against my birthright.

The point is that a male has to sit down to poo and can sit down to pee if he wanted so lifting of the seat is his personal preference. In that case, the onus in on him to put it back down.

;-) Indeed so.
I would agree that if the toilet seat is down to begin with, and then a man chooses to have the epically manly experience of pissing standing up then it is only polite to replace the seat back in the original 'sitting' position.

This also reduces the potential for the woman catching a urinary infection by having to touch the most likely not especially clean toilet seat before going about her business.
It's well known that it's much more likely that a woman would catch a urinary infection this way than a man, due to the comparative shortness of the female urethra.

And oh, health-wise you should put the lid down, not just the seat.
Do you flush while the lid is up and let all the poop/urine particles fly on bathroom walls and on your husband's shaving tools? ewwww

;-) Well, following that logic it sounds like many men are perfectly happy to have piss fly everywhere (including all over their toothbrushes, shaving tools etc) if they're peeing standing up, then leaving the seat up to flush and just walking off with it like that.

I was appalled to read about those poor little toddler boys having toilet seats falling on them and hurting their penises !
The poor little things. I totally agree with the doctor guy that people ought to be leaving the seat up if they're toilet training young boys.... and vice-versa for young girls, as it's a terrible shame if they fall in because of being unable to get the seat back down and having to pee with it up.... and the idea of a toddler boy being hurt while just trying to have a piss really is terrible.

I only look in public places (and I don't sit on them). We don't share toilets in the house. Letting someone else use my toilet is a big favor. :D Occasionally when I go to my brother's place I might wipe it first, but he has his own toilet as well and I use the one for guests.

Actually in my place, its as well no prob. Most people decided, that they think its too complicated to wash the floor, everytime afterwards them going to pee, so because of that they simply sit down. As already mentioned, I dont tell people how they shall pee, but actually if they are grown up, then they dont need me to care for their pee and poo after them doing so, which means I expect them to leave my toilette as clean, as it was before, without sprinkles. So do as you want, but if you insist on peeing while standing, then doing so includes for every clean person to wash the floor afterwards. Until now, most have decided, that they want to pee while sitting, so that toilette seat is no issue here. As well as everyone is told to close the lid afterwards, and if they are unable to do so, out of hygienic reasons, then they are additionally told to do so, because if not, our malecat actually uses it as otherwise as drinking pool, and whyever, does not feel disturbed by traces of cleaning chemicals inside the toilette. If people bother around, because of me not wanting my malecat to drink toilette cleaning chemicals, I simply dont want them in my house, and they are free to carelessly cause someone elses cat to get poisoned. (Additional, because of its neck being too small the malecat actually steps with his frontfeet in the lower bassin, when drinking. I dont need wet toilette-water traces in my house. -.- )

An entire episode about this issue. Obviously well researched and accurate!
